Francis E. Bristol

1928 - 2014

Francis E. Bristol, 85, of Burlington, beloved husband of 42 years of Aneysa (Abalan) Shaffer, died peacefully at home on Saturday, July 19th. Fran was born November 11, 1928, in Canton, CT., son of the late Anson Bristol III and Lillian (Fuller) Bristol. He was a graduate of Farmington High School and was a US Army veteran having earned Korean Service Medals, CT Veteran's Wartime Service Medals and UN Medals. Prior to retiring, Francis worked at Hurley Manufacturing, Miner Lumber Co., Pratt & Whitney and John Dempsey Hospital. He loved woodworking and was a master craftsman/cabinet maker. He was an expert at welding and fixing most everything. He also loved his home at Cape Cod and NASCAR. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Donald, and John Maher. He is survived by his siblings, Patricia Antigiovani, Richard Bristol and Wayne Bristol; his former wife Claire Gunner, his son, Steven Bristol and his wife Rose of Torrington; Claire's children, Tim Maher, Debbie Foryan and Maureen Foster, and Aneysa's children; David Shaffer and Rev. Barbara Shaffer-Bengston as well as several grand, great, great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank VITAS Innovative Hospice for their care and support. Friends may call at The Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main St, Rte. 4, Unionville, on Wednesday, July 23rd from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. A Prayer Service will be held at 8:00 pm with the Rev. Barbara Shaffer-Bengston in The Ahern Funeral Home. Burial with full military honors will be in Case Cemetery, Burlington, CT on Thursday, July 24th at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his name may be made to the Music Committee at the Congregational Church of Burlington, 268 Spielman Highway, Burlington, CT 06013.
