Francis Verano Obituary

Taconic, CT – Francis Joseph "Frank" Verano, 93, of 61 Mt. Tom Road, died Wednesday morning, May 19, 2021 at the Sharon Hospital in Sharon, CT. He was the husband of Dorothy (Kreivenas) Verano. Frank was born January 21, 1928 in New Britain, CT, son of the late Joseph and Mathilda (Squillacote) Verano. Following graduation from high school, Frank enlisted in the Army Air Force. He enlisted on June 27, 1946 and separated from the Air Force on May 18, 1949 having earned the rank of Sergeant. Frank played football in high school and into the military. In 1947, he was named the Outstanding Player in the Grape Bowl in Exeter, CA. After the military, Frank entered college, earned his BS degree and became a Physical Education Teacher. He taught in both the Plainville and New Britain School systems; and was actively involved with the New Britain REC Program during the summer months. Never one to stand still, Frank raised Christmas Trees and had an orchard with over 80 apple trees. An avid hunter and fisherman, he was known in the Northwest Corner as "The Great White Hunter" and "Mr. Salmon". Frank also made salmon lures. He served the Town of Salisbury as a constable. He was the first constable presented a badge by the officers of State Police Troop B in North Canaan. Frank also had a love of animals. In addition to his wife, Frank is survived by his five children, 11 grandchildren and his great-grandchildren. Special remembrances are held for his two daughters: Evelyn Caron and her husband Ken of Forestville, CT and their two sons, Brandon and Daniel of Plainville, CT; and Katherine Verano and her daughter Kaitlyn, both of Waterford, CT. Frank was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Vinelli. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 24, 2021 at 11:00 am in St. Martin of Tours Parish St. Joseph's Church 4 Main St. North Canaan, CT 06018. Burial with full military honors will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery North Canaan, CT 06018. There are no calling hours and there will be no procession from the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Salisbury Visiting Nurse Association 30A Salmon Kill Rd. Salisbury, CT 06068. Arrangements are under the care of the Newkirk-Palmer Funeral Home 118 Main St. Canaan, CT 06018.
