Garth HERRICK Obituary

Garth M. Herrick, die hard Yankees fan, fierce labor activist, cold brew connoisseur, gin martini enthusiast (bleu cheese olives only), Marshall Crenshaw's biggest fan, THE movie quote master, but most importantly, Tammy's devoted husband, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, June 17, 2021. Born in Hartford, on January 29, 1965, he eventually moved to Newington where he would then spend the next 40 plus years of his life. He grew up right in the heart of Newington Center. Right around the corner from his home is where he got one of his first jobs, Steve's Place. He met hundreds of amazing people over the 30 years he was there that he kept in contact with even after all these years. There will be a huge void in all the worker's and customer's hearts. All in that little house on Main Street is where his love flourished for The Beatles, Star Trek, late night talk shows, and most importantly, Tammy. Aside from being a selfless father and husband, he was a loyal state employee with DDS for 35 years. In the last few years, he started working as a union organizer with the 11-99 union. He will be deeply missed by his coworkers and clients alike. He leaves behind two beautiful, strong daughters, Sarah Herrick and boyfriend Steven Weis, and Audrey Herrick. He is also survived by his father, Garth Herrick; his sisters-in-law, Toni and John Montano, Tracy Burch and Scott Boyko along with his nephew, Thomas and niece, Marina Burch. Garth was predeceased by his mother Elizabeth Woodward Herrick, his aunt Rhoda Herrick, and his wife Tammy Herrick. May they rest together in paradise for eternity where they belong. The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday Annunciation Parish (Holy Spirit Church), 183 Church Street, Newington. Everyone is asked to meet at the church. Burial will immediately follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, New Britain. For online expressions of sympathy to the family, please visit www.desopofuneralchapel.com.

I just learned of Garth's passing, as I retired last year and am out of the loop. Garth and I were middle school classmates as well as co workers all those years at the state of CT. I would occasionally run in to him from time to time at inservices or union functions. He would always take a moment to remember the old school days. I am sorry for you loss. I am sorry for the loss the union will feel as well because he worked so hard for it. I will pray for him and all of you.

May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived. Garth was an incredible human being to able to touch so many lives. He was a true friend and cared about everyone's needs. I had the pleasure of meeting Garth when we worked on a special project for 1199. I was so blown away of what kind of guy he was. He always spoke about you girls and your mom. You were his life. Please know that now you girls will have not one but two very special personal angels who love to the ends of time. They will be that cool breeze that will brush against your face when you need a hug. They will be that extra voice of reasoning when you need. May God continue to bless you both. I loss a true friend and co worker. God bless you both. May God send angles of comfort and mercy.

My deepest condolences to the family. Garth was an amazing friend and a coworker and always had a warm way about him. As hectic as work would get he would stick his head into my office and always managed somehow make me smile. He was always checking in about the latest Marvel movies and comics, but I could chat with him forever about all kinds of things. He was always going on about his family and how amazing you all were. He will be missed.

My sincerest sympathies to the Herrick family. Garth's presence was so much more than being a valued 1199 member and Organizer. He met life's struggles with courage and conviction. I will miss his humor, candor and willingness to advocate in the toughest of times. This is a palpable loss to his family, community and state as a whole. He will be missed and always remembered.

Sarah and Audrey - I was fortunate to spend many nights behind the Steve’s Place counter with your Dad. His ability to turn a simple dinner visit into to something truly special for all who entered Steve’s defined his nature. During future visits with my own family to Steve’s, your Dad would always take the time to visit our table and cut me to pieces while making my daughters laugh uncontrollably. I can not find words which adequately describe the respect I feel for your Dad, his love for both of you, and the unforgettable impact he had on the town of Newington.
I’m so sorry for your loss...

Garth, I can’t believe it’s been 17 years that we have been friends. Our friendship started off on the rough side the first couple years we worked together. But as time went on our friendship grew ! I was honored to get to know the man you really were. A man who took obstacles thrown his way and turned it into a challenge. A sweet, caring , loving man who always worked hard to provide for his family and their future.A friend sharing family stories and pictures of our daughters growing up. A silly man who would make monkey faces just to make my grandson laugh. I enjoyed talking to Tammy and sharing stories and also teasing you about the mess you made in the kitchen at work and home ! As time went on we were teased that our arguing or banter sounded like siblings. We shared a lot of ups and downs together the passed eight years and realized that our friendship had changed and now we are family! Garth you will always be my brother and I will always miss you ! I’m heartbroken and stunned that I could not reach you that day. May god bless you and may you have peace !
Sarah and Audrey my deepest condolences to you and your family. Just knowing Tammy and Garth I believe their strength , love and energy will be with you both .
Love Mimi Desrosiers
