Dr. Gary Arnold Epling

Dr. Gary Arnold Epling, 56, of Davis Rd., Storrs, husband of Lee (Keating) Epling, died Sunday, (September 9, 2001) at home. He was born June 22, 1945 in Pikeville, KY, the son of Hazel (Ramey) Epling of Elkhorn City, KY, and the late Arnold I. Epling. He was a 1967 graduate of MIT and received his PhD from the University of Wisconsin in 1972. His post doctoral work was done at Yale in 1973. Dr. Epling was a professor at Fordham University from 1973 to 1978, when he came to UConn. He has served as the Chemistry Dept. Head since 1994. In addition to his mother and wife, he is survived by two daughters, Kaithlin Epling and Chelsea Epling; and a son, Brian Epling, all of Storrs; seven step grandchildren, including Laura Lacy of Storrs; a brother, Ronald of Florence, KY; and a sister, Lucille Epling Belcher of Elkhorn City, KY. His family will receive friends at the Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson St., Rte 195, Willimantic, on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. His funeral service will be held on Thursday at 3 p.m. at the St. Thomas Aquinas Center, North Eagleville Rd., Storrs. Burial will be in Kentucky. Please omit flowers. His family suggests memorial donations to a charity of the donor's choice.
