George DeGennaro Obituary

George A. DeGennaro, 81, of Windsor Locks, entered into Eternal Peace on Tuesday, May 25, 2021, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family. George was born on November, 3, 1939, in Derby, the loving son to the late Louis and Lena (Sherokow) DeGennaro. He attended local schools in Derby, and went on to further his education at New Haven College where he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree. He spent his summers growing up in Oxford, CT at his family's cottage. George enjoyed a long career with several companies as a top notch computer analyst, ultimately retiring from Dunn and Bradstreet. After retirement he began bartending in Meriden where he made many friends and enjoyed socializing amongst the people. Along with his wife, he attended Evangelical Free Church in West Haven. He was proud of his many years as a volunteer firefighter in Derby. He enjoyed working around his house and doing yard work. George was a jack of all trades and everyone knew if they needed something fixed he would be willing to help. Above all, his greatest joy in life was the time spent with his family and the cherished memories they made together on their family trips. George is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Shirley (Jahnige) DeGennaro, of Windsor Locks; his son, Mark DeGennaro and his wife, Michelle, of Windsor; sister, Suzanne Foster and her husband, Roger; brother, Thomas DeGennaro and his wife, Jeanne; a sister-in-law, Dolores Rose; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Daniel, Louis Jr., Richard, John (Jack), James, and William; and a sister, Constance Horan. Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for calling hours on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 from 5- 7 pm at the Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring St., Windsor Locks, CT 06096. A memorial service will be held privately at a later date. Memorial donations in honor of George may be made to the United Services Organization, P.O. Box 96860, Washington, DC 20077. I'm saddened to learn of George's passing on. I was a one-time neighbor in Meriden, but more notably, I worked with George in the nascent business computer software industry, participating in the evolution as Computeristics became Management Science America, and then again, as MSA became Dun & Bradstreet Software. George was always an enthusiastic, proud and dedicated professional. And he never failed to bring a smile or a laugh, just when it was needed most. He relentlessly championed the idea of packaged software as a business solution with vigor and commitment, at a time when the very concept was foreign and suspect. Always with pep in his step, you knew George was in the office when you heard him exclaim his trademark reply: "SUPER!"

I extend my sympathy and condolences to Shirley and Mark, his brother and sister, and to the entire extended family, as well as George's friends.
