George Edward Kraft

George Edward Kraft, 77, of Wellington Heights, Avon, husband of the late Grace (Brown) Kraft died Wednesday, (September 10, 2003) at home. He was born October 17, 1925 in Hudson, NY son of the late Henry David and Jessie Ruth (Sagendorph) Kraft and had lived in Hartford prior to moving to Avon 53 years ago. He attended Hillard College in Hartford. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Navy, participating in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre, Iwo Jima, the American Theatre, the Magic Carpet Campaign and the liberation of the Philippines. As an Aviation Machinist he served on several ships, including the USS Hornet and the USS Shamrock CVE 84. Mr. Kraft was employed as a maintenance technician and carpenter for the Hartford Insurance Company and was a self-employed building contractor for many years prior to his retirement. He was a member of Avon Congregational Church, and the Avon and Canton Senior Citizens. He was a Mason and a member of the Tuscan Lodge #126, AF & AM in Manchester. He is survived by three sons, Kenneth R. Kraft of Burlington, Stephen K. Kraft of Torrington, Donald H. Kraft of Boise, ID; a daughter, Lynn C. Naves of St. Petersburg, FL and seven grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Doreen Havens of Bloomfield. Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 120 Albany Turnpike, Canton, Saturday, September 13, 3-5 p.m. with a Masonic Service and prayers following the calling hours.
