LaFLEUR, George W.
George William LaFleur, 84, of Glastonbury passed away peacefully on Sunday (December 11, 2011). His final journey was eased by the presence of his five devoted daughters. George joined the Army at the age of 17 and served in the South Pacific during World War II. His career spanned many years in sales for various companies including RCA and Westinghouse, where he received many awards, including trips to Hawaii and Yugoslavia for top salesmanship. As an avid sportsman, he enjoyed boxing, loved motocross, cycling, skiing and most of all hiking the White Mountains with his daughters. He also had a special place in his heart for the Hawaiian Islands and India. He leaves behind his cherished and very grateful five daughters and their families, Nanette and Mark Loper of Glastonbury, Suzanne Keeney of Glastonbury, Lori and John Saglio of Columbia, Georgette LaFleur of South Windsor and Michele and Mark Leahy of South Windsor; and his wife of 36 years Nancy Hills LaFleur of Glastonbury. He also leaves a sister Bonnie Benevides and her family of Vernon; and ten dearly loved grandchildren Val, Jana, Mark, Dylan, Raelene, Nicole, David, Sarah, Kevin and Kelly. George was a grateful member of AA for 30 years and the friendships he made blessed his life. His family recognizes and appreciates the positive influence you have all made on him. The focus of his life was helping others. As a family, we witnessed his generosity and true kindness. Our Dad's life was a testament of what compassion and love can do to change the lives of many. His life was his lesson to all of us. Those fortunate enough to have known him, realize what a precious gift he was. As his daughters, we will emulate his good example as we go on with his memory in our hearts.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 15 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Avenue, Glastonbury. Burial will be private. In his earlier years, George volunteered many hours at the Children's Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Connecticut Children's Hospital Foundation, 282 Washington Street, Hartford, CT 06106. I last saw Mr. LaFleur about 5 years ago. Seeing him brought back many pleasant memories. To me, he was one happy guy, but how couldn't you be happy, being the father of "the LaFleur Girls". I remember hearing about the trips to Hawaii and India. Our thoughts are with you in the passing of your Dad, Grandfather and Husband.

"A sacred light has stepped into nature, now free to be everywhere, and in all things. He shines in the sky through the sun and the moon, and stars are the wink of his eye. Walks beside in the rustling leaves; whistles by the spring bird's song; soars high, but watches close, in the hawk at mountain peaks. Joins in gentle laughter with the bubbling brooks; and a compassionate smile so slightly to one side, grins back somewhere in formation of rocks and lush green nooks. With much gratitude for a beautful blessing named George, who now gives 'shine-hugs'."

Many years ago when I was at a low point in my sobriety,I attended a meeting in East Hartford & George & Cowboy Chuck were telling their stories. I was amazingly uplifted & set back on the right path. Both men became lifelong friends from that day on. Chuck has long gone to his reward & George will now join him.Aloha my friend.

Goerge was an inspiration to me and a friend to all. His enthusiasm was endless and was a great person to be around. He especially loved his daughters, wife and family. I am saddened to her of his passing but know he is looking down on all of us today.

George enjoyed visiting our "Open Mic" at the Windsor Recovery Club. It was always good to see him, and to talk with him. He was a power of example for everyone in recovery, and he helped many.
