George Mason Obituary

George Leedom Mason, III, 88, of Simsbury, CT passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, July 4, 2021. He was born July 22, 1932 in Philadelphia, PA, son of the late George L. Mason, Jr. and Marie (Drybala) Mason and had lived in Westwood, MA prior to moving to Simsbury 35 years ago. He graduated from La Salle University, Class of 1953, with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army (1955-1957). George was a competitive swimmer during his high school, college and military service years. He spent his entire career in the life insurance industry, earning his CLU in 1970. His strong work ethic left a mark at Continental American, Fidelity Mutual Insurance Co. and The New England. He joined LIMRA in Farmington, CT, in 1986 and happily retired the summer of 1997 as Senior Director of the Marketing Consultation Group. George was an active member of St. Catherine of Siena Church in West Simsbury, CT, where he served as a lector and as a member of the Men's Club for many years. His clam chowder was always a hit at the annual "Soup and Bread" night! George loved spending time with his family, was an avid reader, liked to garden, enjoyed golf and playing bridge with friends. He thoroughly enjoyed traveling, which he did professionally throughout his career. However, his true joy came from traveling with his wife. During their decades together, they visited 39 states and 30 countries! George was the devoted husband of Lois K. (Fleischmann) Mason, spending 55 years together until her passing in 2017. George is survived by his children, George L. Mason, IV, and his wife Crystian of Moscow, ID; Margaret "Peggy" M. Santhouse and her husband Timothy of Wethersfield, CT; John J. Mason of Simsbury, CT; and Diana E. DiTunno and her husband Joseph of Southington, CT; his brother, Richard Mason and his wife Ann Marie of Naples, FL. "PopPop" to his grandchildren Sarah, Cassie, Tyler, Luke, Alana, Matthew and Natalie, and his great grandson, Landon. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, August 5 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury, CT. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 6, at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 265 Stratton Brook Road in West Simsbury, CT. We´re so sorry to hear of George´s passing. He and Lois were wonderful neighbors. While we just trying to keep up with 4 young children and all their toys, George was keeping his lawn perfectly groomed. We were a little envious, but mostly sorry that our yard never looked as good as his. He gave wonderful advice on gardening and life.
Our prayers and sympathy go out to you.

Rest In Peace George. I only had the pleasure of working for you once in absence of your assistant. I really enjoyed the interaction with you. God blessed you with a beautiful family.
