Gilbert Paul Edman, 80, of Newington, beloved husband of the late Marion Katherine (Skowronek) Edman, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 28, 2021. Born in Hartford on October 18, 1940 he was the son of the late Fritz and Pauline (Ferla) Edman. Gilbert grew up in Hartford graduating from Bulkeley High School, class of 1959. He served as an MP in the U.S. Army, later active in the reserves. Gilbert enjoyed a long career at the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles; retiring as the Chief of Data Processing. Gilbert was an active member in the Newington community, he coached youth baseball and was involved with the Newington Friends of Football. As much as he enjoyed being a father, he was especially delighted being a grandfather, he was a big part of their lives never missing one of their events, whether it was a football game, soccer game or wrestling match he was always in the stands cheering them on. He and Marion also enjoyed their time traveling together on countless visits to Las Vegas, Europe, and the Caribbean as well as quick little trips to the local casinos. A loving husband, father and grandfather, Gilbert will be forever missed by his two sons, Ronald Edman and wife Jennifer of Wethersfield, Scot Edman and wife Melanie of the Plantsville section of Southington, daughter in law Robin Edman of Berlin, and his three adored grandchildren Kyle Edman, Taylor Edman and Colby Edman. He is also survived by his brother-in-law William "Willie" Aronne of Wethersfield, niece Robin O'Mara and husband John and their children John Jr. and Jayme of Newington, nephew Joseph Aronne and wife Charlene and their children Alexis and Andrew, along with several cousins and friends. In addition to his wife, Gilbert was sadly predeceased by his beloved son, Eric Edman, and his sister-in-law Rita Aronne. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the entire staff at Mulberry Gardens of Southington for the wonderful care and compassion they provided Gilbert. The funeral will leave the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield at 9:15 on Tuesday, August 3rd for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Annunciation Parish (Holy Spirit Church), 183 Church Street, Newington. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, August 2nd from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
