Gisele Morin Obituary

Gisele Simone (Fortin) Morin, 80, of South Windsor, beloved wife of the late Marcel Morin, died peacefully on Sunday, September 25, 2022, at Hartford Hospital, surrounded by her family. She was born in St. Georges, Quebec, Canada on April 6, 1942, daughter to the late Gerard and Marie-Berthe (Deblois) Fortin. Gisele grew up in St. Georges, Quebec. She married the love of her life, Marcel on July 6, 1964 and together they settled in Connecticut where they lived in Hartford and East Hartford before moving to South Windsor in 1976. She was a parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Church. Early in her life she worked at St. Georges Shoe Co. where she proudly designed and made her own wedding shoes. For years she provided daycare for many kids and treated them as if they were her own. Later in her life she cleaned houses for over 20 years before retiring. Throughout her life she enjoyed socializing, dancing, and listening to music with her many friends at The French Club. She also enjoyed gardening, taking care of her many plants, cooking, and the company of her cats, Minou and Bella. She loved spending winters in Florida, but looked forward to returning home to see her children and grandchildren. Her sweet demeanor, nurturing ways, thoughtfulness, welcoming smile, and great sense of humor made her a joy to be around. Gisele leaves her children, Nancy Downs and her husband Michael of South Windsor, Tina MacGillvary and her husband Jim of Tolland, David Morin and his wife Sarah of South Windsor, and Roger Morin and his wife Christina of Ellington; her brothers, Roland Fortin and his wife Angela of St. Georges, Quebec, and Julien Fortin and his wife Diane of St. Georges, Quebec; her grandchildren whom she adored, Jeffrey Downs and his wife Amanda of South Windsor, Melissa Smyth and her husband Nicholas of East Hartford, Patrick MacGillvary of Rocky Hill, Luke and Joshua Morin of South Windsor, Renee and Olivia Morin of Ellington; and her great grandchildren, Charlie, Emma, Benjamin, and Madeline. She was predeceased by her brother, Gaetan Fortin. She also leaves several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews. The family extends a special heartfelt thank you to Lori Petry, Gisele's caregiver for the last 4 years, for her unwavering kindness and compassion. Her family will receive friends on Sunday, October 9th at Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd., South Windsor from 2-5 p.m. and on Monday, October 10th, 9 a.m., at the funeral home; followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m., at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 673 Ellington Rd., South Windsor. Burial will follow at Wapping Cemetery in South Windsor. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Protectors of Animals in East Hartford, https://poainc.org/donate. I am so sorry for you loss, I lived across the street and Giselle loved watching my children play outside. She spoke French with me, it was beautiful. Very sweet lady. Thinking of you during this difficult time.
