Giulia Tollis

1927 - 2018

Giulia Tollis, 91, of Avery Heights in Hartford, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, Sept. 7, 2018. She was the widow of Luigi Tollis. Born June 14, 1927, in Pacentro, L'Aquila in Italy, she was the daughter of the late Gaetano and Filomena (Silvestri) Mancini. In 1946, Giulia married the love of her life, Luigi, in Italy. In 1956, they started a new life in Hartford, together with their children. Soon, they built a new home in Wethersfield. Giulia was an accomplished seamstress whose creations ranged from the most fashionable dresses to exquisite drapery. She worked at Coracci & Sons in Hartford and R&S Sportswear in Wethersfield. In retirement, Giulia and Luigi enjoyed their summers in Wells, Maine and winters in Pompano Beach, Florida. After 41 years of living in Wethersfield they eventually moved to Berlin. Giulia enjoyed cooking for family - creating the most delicate lasagna or baking the lightest sponge cake. Gardening was a passion and her green thumb could bring a dried twig to life. Giulia is survived by her son Sabino and his wife Ivana of Wells, Maine; her daughter, Adele Karimian and her husband Mansour of Rocky Hill; two grandchildren, Giulia Tollis and her husband Ken Otto, and Luigi Tollis; two cherished great-grandchildren, Isabella and Logan Otto; a brother-in-law, Attilio Tollis and his wife Carolina; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Giuseppe Mancini; a sister, Almerinda Tollis; and beloved granddaughter, Lisa Tollis. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of The Heights Burnham Family Residence and Avery Heights Station 3, with special thanks to Kristen, Lorna, Opal, and Thelma for their compassionate care. Funeral services will begin on Wednesday at 10:00 am at D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect St., Wethersfield. Entombment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 4-7pm at the funeral chapel.
