Glenn Trombly Obituary

Glenn Michael Trombly passed away peacefully on December 29, 2023 with his dear wife, Mira, by his side. He was born in Hartford to the late Melvin and Bernadine Ryan Trombly on December 31, 1941. Glenn will be remembered for his generosity, kindness, devotion to family and friends and his above and beyond love of teaching. After 38 years of an exemplary teaching career in the areas of Industrial Arts, Technical Drawing / Technology, Glenn retired from Sage Park Middle School in Windsor Ct. In addition to being a natural born teacher, Glenn's woodworking skills produced a variety of furniture, along with personalized gifts for family and friends. During his retirement years he met many former students who reflected upon his positive influence on their lives. Glenn's passion for cars started at a young age with a '40 Ford Red Sedan, followed by a White '58 Chevy Impala. This led to his lifetime interest in Indy Car and Formula 1 racing. Among highlights, he attended the Indianapolis 500, the Canadian Formula Grand Prix and numerous trips to Watkins Glen. He took pride as well in keeping his cars impeccably clean, maintained and waxed. In turn, he would also apply this work ethic to the maintenance of his home and grounds. Rooting for the Red Sox was another on going life time activity. He loved his season tickets to Fenway Park. In addition, he enjoyed following hockey and football. The ski slopes were Glenn's favorite pass time for many winter seasons. His interest in travel took him across the United States and Europe numerous times. He was so enthusiastic about history and the outdoors. Glenn's strong identification with his Irish roots made his visits to Ireland especially memorable. In recognizing the importance of his wife's Ukrainian culture, he developed a deep respect for her background. He attended numerous Ukrainian cultural events and especially enjoyed Ukrainian dance groups. Bluegrass, Folk Music, Irish Ballads, 50's Rock and Roll were among the music genres that Glenn enjoyed listening to as well as attending live concerts and festivals. He took much pleasure in watching a variety of plays, a favorite being Shakespeare. As an avid reader, he looked forward to his historical novels, biographies and Formula 1 magazines. One of his favorite adventures since retirement was helping his niece's husband Greg bring a shrimp boat /cruiser up the intracoastal waterway from Florida to New England. Glenn is predeceased by his sister, Jean T. Anderson-Getty of Windsor, his aunt, Agnes Whalen of Meriden, and cousins, Tom Whalen of Cromwell, Dennis Whalen of Washington State. He is survived by his Beloved and Devoted wife of 40 years, Wolodymyra (Mira)Gnap Trombly, his brother, Gary Trombly and wife Joyce of Windsor; his nieces Selena Trombly of Manchester, Jennifer Mucha and husband Jeff of Wisconsin, Andriana Gnap Freeman and husband Greg of New Hampshire; his nephews, Gary Trombly Jr. and wife Chris of East Granby, Matthew Anderson and wife Amie of Manchester; his great niece, Theodora Duarte and husband Tiago of Oklahoma; his great nephews, Ryan Trombly of East Granby, Sean Trombly of East Granby and Connor Anderson of Manchester; his sister in law, Halyna Gnap of New York and brother in law , Francis Getty of Windsor. Mira,
On behalf of our family, we send our deepest condolences on your loss. Glenn was like an uncle to us and we enjoyed each moment we had with him - whether it be visiting you both at your home for the holidays or just a family get together, to skiing and hearing outlandish stories of Glenn and our fathers childhood. Each story is dear to us, as are you and Glenn. We apologize we cannot be there, but please know we are thinking of you during this difficult time.

With love, Irma, Shannon, Colin, & Sean.

Dear Mira,
We are so very sorry for your loss. We have fond memories of our group trip to Spain several years ago. Our son, Tim, always enjoyed Glenn as a teacher and will remember having the chance to ski with him at Killington. We hope your fond memories can be of some comfort to you at this difficult time.
