CAULFIELD, Gordon Arthur
Gordon Arthur Caulfield, a long-time resident of Middletown, died Saturday, (March 2, 2013) after a lengthy illness. A native of Nova Scotia, Gordon grew up in Detroit, MI. After a short service in the Royal Canadian Air Force, he transferred to the US Army as an infantry officer during World War II. After the Korean War, he resumed his career in the US Air Force, in which he filled numerous roles at many assignments around the world. In his retirement years, Gordon was associated with Holy Apostles College in Cromwell. He taught Church history in their extension program, earned a Master's Degree in education and theology and began studies for a Doctoral degree in Sacred Scripture. After completely retiring due to health problems, Gordon remained active at St. Sebastian parish in Middletown. He and his wife, Alice enjoyed traveling for many years. In addition to his activities in the military and the Church, Gordon had a wide variety of interests including music, languages, gardening, and reading. Gordon was preceded into eternity by his dear wife Alice, his brother, John and his parents. He remains in the loving memory of his daughter and son-in-law, Marie C. and Martin R. Fecher of Middlefield; his sister-in-law Mary Williford Caulfield of Shreveport, LA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 9 at 10 a.m. at Saint Sebastian's Church, 155 Washington Street, Middletown. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Sandwich, MA. Friends may call on Friday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church Street, Middletown and lieu of flowers, may make donations in Gordon's memory to the charity of their choice.
