Grayson Foster Obituary

It is with our deepest sadness, that we announce the death of Grayson David Foster, 23, to an accidental overdose in Deerfield Beach, Florida on May 13th. Born and raised in Newington, Grayson is survived by his mother, Elizabeth (Betsy) Foster and his father, David Foster and wife Michelle of Stuart, Florida; his brother, Alex Foster; and sister, Rachel (Foster) Lentini and husband Kyle Lentini; and his stepsisters: Stephanie Wheeler and Alyssa Weinhold; grandparents: John R. Griffin and his beloved Nana, Frances Griffin (predeceased) of Newington as well as Marilee Foster and Randy Foster (predeceased) of Ledyard; aunt, Nancylee Griffin; and cousins (who were like siblings), Griffin and his fiancé; Danielle, and Mia and Paris Colopy. As written by Griffin: "When someone dies I think it's natural to try and create an analogy that captures the person's life and passing. This is how the human brain works. We take larger-than-life events and ideas and try to fit them into more digestible boxes. In the days following Grayson's death I heard his life, and sudden passing, compared to many things; a firework, a BMX bike, a shooting star. I myself am guilty of making these comparisons. While I can see how each one of these metaphors works in their own way, something always seems missing. Yes, Grayson was very much like a firework. From the moment he stepped foot in the world he had an upward trajectory. He did, indeed, ride through life as though he was on top of his BMX bike. I'm envious of how passionately and fearlessly he dove headfirst into everything. Not afraid to fall, Grayson never let a skinned knee or knocking teeth out stop him from doing what he loved. In many ways he also reminds me of the shooting stars we used to watch at the Cape. I only wish I had known how fleeting Grayson's light would be. However, what is lost in these accurate analogies is the person who he truly was. BMX bikes don't capture the intense love and fierce loyalty Grayson had for his friends and family. A love so strong it kept him smiling and in the brightest of moods during any and all family events even while he tried to navigate his addiction. The memories I have of him at these events, like his sister's wedding, smiling that beautiful smile while swinging his sister on the dance floor. Fireworks capture a fraction of Gray, but they don't have an affinity and awe for animals and the natural world. Images of Grayson collecting periwinkles at the Cape and wrestling his dog Cody for hours are permanently burned into my mind in a way no Fourth of July celebration ever could be. I'm resisting the urge to compare Grayson to things like bikes, stars, or fireworks because he was so much more. Grayson looked like a movie star and could win over anyone with his charm. It's impossible to wrap your mind around the entirety of him as a person, or the vastness of the hole he leaves behind in our lives, but that's ok. I don't want to remember him in a neat, processed, allegory. I want to remember the messy, exuberant, hilarious, passionate kid that I watched grow up." Calling hours will be Sunday, May 23rd from 1-5pm at Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Newington Memorial, 20 Bonair Ave, Newington. Just want to say happy birthday my brotha! I know your celebrating up there! Having a good time in your Irish gear lol. Miss the good times and memories. Me, you, and Riley had so many fun times. From playing football in the back yard, to riding our bikes rain or shine literally everywhere. A couple of my favorite memories was when we were jumping in the trampoline into the pool. Then of course you tried to do some crazy flip and you ended up slipping and falling through the spring as your other half of your body went over the side into the pool. Me and Riley were first like Oo no did he break his leg? Then you immediately looked at us and started laughing and we all just were dying of laughter. Another good one was when I first joined lacrosse ever. Im trying to run around and figure it out and then out of know where you deck me and you were like "welcome to lacrosse and laughed and I was like "I thought we were friends lol. That was just typical us messing around. Any ways the world and me love and miss you bro. Happy 24th my buddy. Cheers!

Betsy, Nancy, and kids (all) - who from the very start, were more like one family than two. My heart breaks for all of you and the terrible pain and loss you're going through. I wish there was something I could say to make you feel better but there isn't. All I can do is leave this message to let you know I care.

I believe when we lose a family member There will always be an empty space in your heart in the shape of that person. That Grayson-shaped cutout in your heart will never be filled... until your hearts meet again one day and reconnect. Until then, you will keep filling that space with All the treasured memories and special feelings you could only get from being with him. Sending my love to you all.

What a beautiful and loving tribute. It paints a picture of someone who was not only deeply loved and admired, but also of someone who had an unwavering love for his family and friends. It is so clear the mark he has left on this world, those he loved and those who loved him. I have come to realize over the years that you all share such a bond and closeness that really in unparalleled. I cannot imagine the pain you are suffering with his loss and words cannot express how deeply sorry I am. I hope, in time, the immense pain is replaced with memories that bring you warmth and make you smile.
With so much love, Sue Winchell

Betsy, Dave, Alex, Rachel and to the rest of your family My heart hurts for you all and I am so sorry for your loss. As I was reading the obituary with tears in my eyes Griffin couldn’t have painted a picture so perfectly of Grayson. I agree a movie star for sure. My memories of him were of when he was little. I would see him on his bike with that silly mischievous look, his beautiful smile and a twinkle in his eye. He was always so kind and respectful. As he grew up I did not see him that often but when I did he never hesitated to come over to me to give me a hug say hello and chitchat. He will truly be missed! You did an amazing job of raising an amazing boy. I hope you feel some comfort knowing he is with his nana. In heaven I am sure he’s making everyone smile. He will always be with you all!! We will have you all in our prayers and are always here for you ! — Dawn and Sully

Grayson...what can I say? You were a sweet, happy, beautiful little boy when you entered my kindergarten classroom so many years ago. I enjoyed your infectious smile and your happy giggles all year long. Everyone, classmates and teachers alike, were drawn to that adorable face and spunky personality! You were so confident, kind, and caring. I will always remember you as you were then. You were a gift to me that year, and I was blessed to be your teacher. RIP special boy.
Betsy, Dave, Alex and Rachel, I’m sending you love and prayers. ❤ I’m so sorry.
