Helen Berkman

BERKMAN, Helen Helen Berkman, 92, of Willimantic, died peacefully at Douglas Manor Nursing Home. She was born in Hartford, the daughter of the late Louis and Bessie Kaminsky. She was the devoted wife of the late Samuel "Shim" Berkman. Helen was predeceased by eight siblings and was the beloved mother of Eleanor Shane of Willimantic, Harriet Silversmith of Montreal, Canada, and Marjorie White and her husband Neal, of Warwick, RI. She was cherished by her nine grandchildren: Steven, Michael, and Eric Shane, Brenda McKinnon, Dena La Blanc, Shari Gallen, Warren Silversmith, Scott White, and Holly Blum; and adored by her 17 great grandchildren. A graduate of Hartford High School, she was a member of Temple B'Nai Israel and its Sisterhood where she served as recording secretary and on numerous committees. She was also a member of Hadassah and a volunteer at Windham Hospital and the American Red Cross for over 40 years. She was loved by so many due to her warm caring spirit. The family wishes to thank Douglas Manor for their compassionate care. Helen's funeral will be held Sunday, June 1 at 11:30 a.m. at Temple B'Nai Israel, 345 Jackson Street, Willimantic. Shiva will be observed at the home of Eleanor Shane through Wednesday evening. Arrangements by Weinstein Mortuary.
