You lived upstairs. I saw you every day...monkey shines, birthday spanks, chocolate covered cherries, dolls from your travels....too many memories to list...

My favorite uncle.
Growing up in Waterford, Connecticut, we enjoyed Hanks visits. In the humid summers, it was cause to celebrate with a picnic outside under the trees, or by the vegetable garden. He always offered to lend his muscle on whatever home project my Dad had underway at our home, often working in his undershirt.
Hank was a giving, warm-hearted uncle. I came to nickname him Hank the Tank, a solid man, both in stature and character.
Hank had a way with words, he would playfully explore words, dissecting them, turning them over, and relating the sounds of a word to others, suggesting connections. A version of critical thinking. It was his way, and one that engaged the two of us in playful conversation. As a young boy, I found his conversation stimulating. Looking back, at this, I see how Hank nurtured an appreciation for critical thinking in me.
He made me feel special, and for this Im eternally grateful.

Uncle Hank, you brought out the best in us. We always looked forward to your visits when we were kids. Mom would bake a pie and Dad would get the barbecue going and we siblings would run around and jump and hang on you when you arrived. Happy times. Uncle Hank, you were just fun to be around. Glad I have the happy memories of those times.
I miss you, Uncle Hank.

My Uncle Hank was my favorite uncle. When were kids, he would come for a visit and stay a night or two. He would always bring a box of chocolate covered cherries just for us kids and we could eat them all! He also enjoyed playing with us, pushing us on the swing, tell us corny jokes, and truly laugh his big loud laugh. He was a joy to be around. I will always have very fond memories of him.
