Herbert Seymour Fienman

Herbert Seymour Fienman, 89, of West Hartford passed away on Tuesday, August 18th, 2015 surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Norma Fienman for 65 years. Born in Hartford, he was the son of the late Maurice and Sarah Fienman. A graduate of Weaver High School, 1943, he then enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was proud to serve his country. He graduated from the Porter School of Engineering and Design in 1952. He was employed by the State of Connecticut as a civil engineer for the Department of Transportation for 30 years. He also worked at Fuss & O'Neill in Manchester, and Kasper Engineering Consulting in Bridgeport. He was a member of the Masonic Level Lodge 137, past president of The Odd Fellows, member of the Hartford Mutual Society, and the Legions of West Hartford. He and Norma have been longtime members of B'nai Tikvoh-Sholom in Bloomfield. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother. Besides his wife, Norma Kosto Fienman he will be dearly missed by his children: Michael Fienman and his wife Myrna of West Hartford, Jay Fienman and his wife Karen of South Windsor, Andrea Oppenheimer and her husband Bryan of South Windsor. Nancie Havinoviski and her husband Glenn of Reston, VA, 5 cherished grandchildren: Brooke Levin and her husband Randy, Erica Fienman, Corey and Matthew Oppenheimer, and Josh Fienman, his brother, Norman Fienman and his wife Marla, his sister Eleanor Zirin and her husband Joseph, and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held on Friday, August 21st at 11:00AM at B'nai-Tikvoh Sholom, 180 Still Road, Bloomfield with Rabbi Debra Cantor officiating. Interment will follow with full military honors at Hartford Mutual Society Cemetery, Wolcott Road in Granby. Following interment the family will receive friends at the home of his daughter Andrea, and again on Sunday starting at 6:00PM, with an evening service at 7:00PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Jewish War Veterans c-o Sgt. John L. Levitow Post #45, 28 Laurel Drive, Stafford Springs, CT 06076, or The American Cancer Society.
