Herbert Krause Obituary

KRAUSE, Herbert Earl Herbert Earl Krause (1946), 61, passed away Friday (September 14, 2007), in Manchester Memorial Hospital. A lifetime Connecticut resident, Mr. Krause was born in Rockville, later lived in Redding Ridge, and recently returned to Vernon. His mother, Doris Krause of Ellington; his "favorite lady" and wife, Christine Krause; his daughter, Heather Reed of Wilton, his son-in-law, Peter Reed; and his beloved granddaughter, Katherine Reed survive him. Mr. Krause is also survived by family in Virginia and by family of his stepson, Dennis Peters of Ridgefield. Mr. Krause, or Herbie as his closer friends knew him, loved life. Born March 22, 1946, Mr. Krause lived most of his life in Redding before recently moving back to Vernon. No matter where he lived, he always maintained a strong faith in God and cared deeply for others. In school, Herbie was class president, a member of the National Honor Society, and editor-in-chief of the yearbook. As a young man, he was a member of the local gun club and later became the third Krause generation to join the Elks in Rockville. Herbie continued to live a very active life. After attending Wesleyan University, he worked for Burns Electronics, (later Wells Fargo) and for the Town of Redding. He was a member of the Redding Volunteer Fire Department #1 and served as Fire Commissioner for eight years. He was a director of both the Redding Boys and Girls Club and the Redding Horse Show for a number of years. Herbie volunteered for many community projects such as helping to sand pieces to replace the Redding Congregational Church's fence after it was ruined in an accident. Herbie also helped design Reddings E911 communication system and the Redding Transfer Station. While assistant director of the transfer station, Herbie worked with the late honorable Judge Geen in supervising community service workers. While cancer overcame his body, Herbie's love and faith forever remained strong. One of his last wishes for everyone to let go of negativity in order to celebrate life with love and prayer. There will be an intimate graveside ceremony on Wednesday, September 19 at Grove Hill Cemetery in Vernon. Donations may be made in Herbie's name to the American Cancer Society. The Burke-Fortin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
