Herbert Sobanski Obituary

Herbert, "Buddy", "Satch", Stanley Sobanski Sr., 80, of Newington, passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2014. He was the beloved husband of the late Simone "Pinky" (LaFlamme) Sobanski. Born in Hartford, son of the late Stanley and Doris (Chamberlain) Sobanski, he grew up in Newington and raised his family in New Britain before moving back to Newington. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army and retired from Pratt & Whitney Aircraft after over 30 years of employment. Herb had a love for the outdoors and a passion for all things in the wild. He was a lifetime member and former Vice President of the CT Trappers Association and inducted into the CT Trappers Association in 2001. He enjoyed fishing, hiking and hunting, loved reading western novels and about Native American culture, and enjoyed working with his hands. Above all, he enjoyed the time he spent with his family. A loving and devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather, Herb leaves his five children, Danette Pape and her husband David of WY, Herbert Sobanski, Jr. and his wife Sherri of Enfield, Catherine Caron and her husband Paul of New Britain, David Sobanski and his fiancée Lynn LeBlanc of Glastonbury, and Lynne Cavanna and her husband James of South Glastonbury. He is the proud grandfather to 13 grandchildren, Sarah Mckergow and her husband Jerermiah, Justin Pape and wife Nicole, Joseph and Nicholas Sobanski, William Eastham, Brian and Lillian Sobanski, Adam Caron, Selena and Marissa Sobanski, and Shane and Daniel Cavanna, and four great grandchildren, Luke and Benjamin Pape, Nathan Caron and Chase Cavanna. He also leaves his two sisters, Katherine Lancaster and her husband Robert of MO and Jeanette Nagy of Hartford and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandson Paul Caron, III and his sister Barbara Redden. Calling hours will be on Sunday, May 4th, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington. He will be laid to rest privately with military honors at St. Mary Cemetery in New Britain. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses and staff at Buckingham Estates for their compassionate care during the past four years. Dear Dad,
Still missing you. Sarah's little Alice turned one last month..you would love her. She gets so excited about finding pine cones, rocks, watching the birds and simply spending as much time as she can outside! I think there is a little bit of you in her.. I hope you and Mom are together, please give her a hug for me.
