Howard O'Connell Obituary



Howard Vincent O'Connell, 86, longtime resident of Bond St., Hartford, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 7th, 2015 at Bride Brook Health and Rehabilitation Center in Niantic. Howard was born November 1, 1928 and raised in Hartford, one of six boys to the late William and Nellie (Hallisey) O'Connell. He attended St. Augustine School, continuing on and graduating from Bulkeley High School, Class of 1947. He was a member of St. Augustine Church, Hartford. Howard moved from Hartford to Rocky Hill, then relocated to Atria Waterford to be close to his late brother William in Old Lyme. Prior to his retirement, Howard was a devoted employee at the Travelers Insurance Co. for 45 years. He was a member of the Hartford Irish Club, a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox and UConn Basketball. He loved Ireland, as well as dancing in his later years, and photography. Howard will be dearly missed and remembered by three sisters-in-law, Frances O'Connell of Old Lyme, Joan O'Connell of South Lyme and Mary O'Connell of Pensacola, FL; and thirteen nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Howard was predeceased by his brothers, Joseph, Walter, William, Charles and Richard as well as his nephew, Kevin O'Connell. There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Howard's life will be held Monday, March 16, 2015 at 10am in in St. Augustine Church, 10 Campfield Ave., Hartford. Interment will follow the Mass in the family plot in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Howard's funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield. The family requests in lieu of flowers, and that memorial donations be made in Howard's name to St. Augustine School, 20 Clifford St., Hartford, CT 06114.
