Isabelle Savanella Obituary

SAVANELLA, Isabelle Hogan Isabelle Hogan Savanella passed away peacefully on Sunday (April 13, 2008), at the home of her granddaughter in Somers. Born on April 16, 1925 to Theresa (Lundquist) and Frank Michael Hogan. Her partner and the love of her life, Dominic Eugene Savanella, predeceased her. She resided in the Hartford area most of her life. Just out of High School in 1942, Isabelle went to California to work at the Bendix Corporation to help with the war effort. She subsequently came back to Connecticut, attended Bay Path College and worked at SNET. She returned to work part time as a clerk for a West Hartford dry cleaner while her children attended school. She then became a nurse and was a private LPN for over 20 years. She also worked at The Nurses Registry with Edna Clarke, retiring only for health reasons. As the mother of three children, Dale Jean, Michael Angelo and Norman Edward, she was very active in their school PTAs, and became a group leader for several youth organizations. For over 30 years, she was stricken with many health related problems, but, most who knew her will remember her for the bright smile and quick wit that were the core of her charms. She confronted her challenges with amazing clarity and determination. They did not stop her from sharing her genuine concern and interest in others, sharing her words of inspiration and hope, or providing something to laugh about. She had many life long friends and made new ones very easily. Isabelle was also known for her generosity and enthusiasm in volunteering for many charities and collecting donations for charitable organizations. She had an unassuming manner that never looked for the spotlight, but she always made sure that the people she felt deserved it, got one to shine on them. For over 25 years, she called the Immanuel House in Hartford home, enjoying the friendships and activities available there that allowed her to be both independent and an active part of the community. She is survived by: Dale and Jack Cuvier, Sr.; Norman Edward Savanella and Al Jacob; James and Ruth Savanella and Sylvia and David Schmitt. Her grandchildren: Dawn Cuvier and Scot Arnone; Michele Cuvier, Angela and Jonathan Stein; Joseph Savanella; Derek and Patty Savanella; Jennifer Savanella; Janice Savanella and Michael and Caitlin Polvani.Great grandchildren: Cody Arnone; Krystal Wilson; Ricky Wilson; Kristine Savanella; Regina Dimmock; Domonica Perkins; Courtney and Angie Courchesne and Jade and Nathan Polvani. A Great great grandchild: Brianna Williams. Also: Judi and Jana Cole; Lucy (Savanella) Fasciano and Donna Savanella. She was the youngest of four children; Ruth Mae Hogan Gallucci, Evelyn Hogan Mortensen and William E. Hogan, all who passed before her. She was also predeceased by her son, Michael Angelo Savanella, a neice; Nancy Hogan Crone, and two grandchildren; Jack A. Cuvier, Jr.; Jaime Savanella Messenger. A Memorial Service celebrating Isabelle's life will be held on Sunday, April 27, at 11 a.m. in the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd, Wethersfield. Internment will be private and at the convenience of the family. The family requests in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made in Isabelle's name to a charity of the donor's choice.

Oh yes, I love Isabelle. I have great memories of her. As well as her son Michael (aka Mick). My mom has since passed (Judi), but she is as close to Mick as i could get her for her final resting.
I loved spending time with Isabelle. She was the nicest women. Oh man was she full of energy. She was easy to talk to and learn from. I told her in her last days to go dancing in the clouds with Dominic. We never forget those that are not on earth with us. We can always still talk to them and see them shining in the night sky.

Dear Norman,
Again, I am very sorry to hear about the loss of your dear mother. It sounds like she was a wonderful person who freely gave of herself and cared very much about the people around her. May she rest in God's loving arms.

Dear Dale and the Savanella family: We will never forget the happiness Isabelle brought to the residents of Immanuel House in Hartford, where she lived. She participated in activities as much as she was able, always kind and always making others feel so special. Actually it was Isabelle who was special and we loved her and will miss her.
