Jacob Fundiller

Jacob (Jack) Fundiller died peacefully at his home in Lake Worth, FL, on Tuesday, March 19, 2014 at the age of 91. Beloved husband of Joan Fundiller for 33 years and loving father of Doreen Fundiller-Zweig and Elliot Zweig, of West Hartford, CT, Michael and Ruby Fundiller, of Palm Desert, CA, and Peter Kleinman, of Sevierville, TN, "Saba" will be greatly missed by his cherished grandchildren, Ian and Melissa Zweig, Scott and Julia Zweig, Robert Zweig and Kimberly Caramanica, Justin Fundiller and Talia Fundiller, and his great-grandchildren, Ava Elizabeth Zweig and Levi Mason Zweig. Jack was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Bedonna Fundiller, and is survived by his sister, Florence Faust, of Deerfield Beach, FL. Jack was devoted to and adored by his nieces and nephews. He was born in Brownsville, New York and lived in Woodmere, New York for many years before retiring to Florida. As a corporal in the 1st Division of the United States Marine Corps during World War II, he fought in the Campaign for Guadalcanal and in the Battle of Okinawa. A master electrician, he was a 27-year veteran of the Fire Department of New York. Jack lived life to the fullest and was passionate about family, healthy living and Zionism. A daily kayaker, his devotion to fitness began during his teenage years, blossomed during his years as a Marine and firefighter and continued through his 90s. He will always be remembered for his unique smile, large warm eyes, boundless energy and generosity of spirit. Jack was buried with military funeral honors in South Florida National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 29 Fulton Place, West Hartford, CT on Sunday, March 30 from 2 to 5 p.m., and Monday, March 31 from 7 to 9 p.m.
