Jacqueline Lloyd Obituary

Jackie Lloyd, 60, of Farmington, died on Monday, (August 26, 2002) after a long, courageous battle, which she still maintains she won, against cancer. She was born in Winthrop, MA, on June 25, 1942, grew up in Hamden Highlands, ME, and graduated from Colby College in 1964. She had a love for the outdoors that took many forms, including rock-climbing, hiking the Presidentials, fly-fishing, and participating in an Outward Bound course. She was also an avid and enthusiastic tennis and squash player. She owned and operated JRL Designs, a landscape design firm, authored numerous articles on landscape and garden design and lectured extensively to local garden clubs. She was a member of the Connecticut Nurserymen's Association, the New England Wildflower Society, and was an active member of the Garden Club of Hartford. She was a former board member and past president of the Knox Parks Foundation, and was active in numerous community organizations. She is survived by her husband, Alex Lloyd of Farmington; daughter Erin Lloyd of Rockport, ME, daughter, Andi Lloyd; son-in-law, Chris Fastie; and grandson, Galen Fastie of Salisbury, VT; son, John Lloyd of Missoula, MT; son, Peter Lloyd of Farmington; and brother, John Roe of Wiscasset, ME. She loved her family, her plants, and her dogs, although not necessarily always in that order. She brought to all of her activities boundless energy, independence, and a wonderfully irreverent sense of humor. Calling hours will be Wednesday, August 28, 5-8 p.m., at the Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave., West Hartford, and a private memorial gathering will be held in the fall. Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made to the Helen and Harry Gray Cancer Center at Hartford Hospital or the Knox Parks Foundation.

Jackie was such a lovely, fun lady; we always wished we had had more time together, but then, Alex would have been deprived of the parking lot view from his bachelor digs on the trips that always happened during Jackie's busy Spring gardening stuff. Our love and condolences to all for your great loss. We think, in her own way, she DID win the battle; we just didn't know how huge the battle had been, for which we apologize for not being there for any of you. (She knew that too, I'll bet, and forgave us) Our loving regards to all, Crys and Ted
