James Cataldi Obituary
CATALDI, James "Jim" Anthony James "Jim" Anthony Cataldi, 87, of Hartford, beloved husband of nearly 60 years of Josephine "Jay" (Vincenzo) Cataldi, passed away on Tuesday (May 30, 2006) after a brief, but very courageous fight with cancer. Born in East Hartford, on October 28, 1918 the youngest son of the late George and Donata Marie (Montana) Cataldi, he lived most of his life in the South End of Hartford with his loving wife and family. Jim loved life, and was very active throughout his entire life, always smiling, happy and healthy. In World War II, he was in the United States Army Air Force as well as a firefighter on the airfields of England and France. He later worked at Pratt & Whitney as a Lieutenant firefighter in the fire department, until his retirement. He was an expert poker player and loved playing with his family and friends as well as in the casinos. Jim was a devoted Red Sox fan, cheering along when they won the World Series on his 86th birthday and continuing to follow the games until the end. Jim loved traveling to his cottage at Hampton Beach, enjoying summers with his family by the ocean. Besides his beloved wife he leaves behind, his children, James Jr. and wife, Kathleen, Ronald and wife, Marlaina and Dr.Emma Lou; grandchildren, Christin, Erica and Rocco; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his loving daughter, Christine, as well as eight older siblings. Private funeral services for the immediate family will be at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel. There will be no calling hours. Private burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Jim wishes any donations be sent to the American Red Cross, 209 Farmington Ave., Farmington, CT 06032. I've been a friend of Jim's son Ron for more than 20 years, and Ron introduced me to "Poppa Cataldi" about 18 years ago. What a delightful person - so outgoing, and very friendly to someone he had just met. He treated me like family because I was a friend of Ron's, and I'll never forget that. The world has lost a wonderful man.
