James Hartnett Obituary

James "Jimmy" Hartnett, 65, late of North Eastham, Massachusetts, died on January 25th, 2021 in Boca Raton, Florida, of complications of COVID-19. Jimmy, born and raised in Hartford, Connecticut, was the beloved son of William Hartnett, Jr., a firefighter, and Josephine M. Hartnett, née Hepp, an executive secretary and housewife. Jimmy and his brother, William "Billy" Hartnett III, were lifelong best friends and lived together for many years in Eastham. For the past decade, Jimmy had wintered in Vero Beach, Florida, and was especially glad to have traded harsh northeast winters for the comfort of the Florida coast. Jimmy served his country as a member of the United States Coast Guard and was honorably discharged after serving for four years. An avid cyclist until an injury set him back, Jimmy took full advantage of the serene coastal paths and byways of his Cape Cod home. Jimmy loved sports, following closely the victories of the Boston Celtics and the New York Yankees, his favorites, and will be remembered for his kind heart and wonderful spirit. Jimmy is survived by his cousin, Claudia Ashline, of East Hartford, Connecticut, and his uncle, Dan Hepp, of East Windsor, Connecticut. Jimmy was predeceased by his father, William, in 1986, his mother, Josephine, in 2012, and his brother, Billy, in 2017. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

My husband and I send deepest condolences to Jimmy's family. I worked with Jo many years ago in CT and met and worked with Bill on the Cape for several years. We quickly learned that many coincidences/connections connected us over the years. Jimmy and Bill were the closest of brothers. At least they are together again, as sad as that is for those who knew and miss them.
