James Langlois Obituary

James Roland Langlois, 70, of Middletown, beloved husband of Dianne (Current) Langlois, died unexpectedly on Sunday, January 24, 2016. Born on January 2, 1946 in Melrose, MA, he was the son of the late Louis and Genevieve (Kurkowski) Langlois. In 1969, Jim married Dianne and together they raised their son, Bartholomew James Langlois. Jim worked in the cement industry for forty-seven years and most recent was the Executive Director of the Connecticut Concrete Promotion Council. Jim was in his 32nd year as an assistant men's ice hockey coach at Wesleyan University. A 1968 graduate of St. Lawrence University where he lettered in hockey, Jim coached Wesleyan's women's ice hockey team from 1980-84 before joining the men's ranks in 1985. He also has coached in the Middlesex Youth Hockey Program and at Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingford. Jim was also an avid golfer and tied for third in the 19th Super Senior Championship at Heritage Village Country Club. Along with his wife, Jim is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Bart and Kate Langlois and their two children and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends may call on Friday, January 29th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church Street, Middletown. Funeral service and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim's memory may be made to The First Tee of Connecticut, 55 Golf Club Road, Cromwell, CT 06416. Dear Dianne and family,

Our family just learned (in April) of Jim's passing and we are devastated. Words cannot convey how much he meant to those of us who had the honor to work with him.

I first met Jim when I was Marketing Director for HBA. During those years I had the ultimate pleasure of working with him in his capacity as Executive Director of the CT Concrete Promotion Council. My impression was here is a guy who is innovative, knowledgeable about the concrete and building industry and Marketing, and possessed of a quick sense of humor.

Jim was instrumental in bringing the all Concrete Home display to the Home Builders Association Home Show. In addition, he agreed to cut a Home Show promotional spot using his wonderful resonant voice. He also he appeared as a guest on the radio show I was producing at the time. Imparting his immense knowledge and answering call in listener questions about concrete with his excellent speaking voice.

When I left HBA, Jim approached me to work with the CCPC to create and work on their Newsletter. It was the beginning of one of the best working relationships my daughter, who worked on the CCPC Newsletter with me, have known.

Jim taught me so much about the Concrete Industry and Pervious Concrete. His knowledge, ability to see the possibilities and engage others, and his consummate wit will be something I shall always remember as will be his passion for soccer.

Our deepest condolences to his family. It's a terrible loss.

Jim and I coached together for three years at Choate. In the second year, 1978, the boy's hockey team went undefeated thanks to his experience, loyalty, knowledge and understanding of how to communicate with young men and parents. He never asked for recognition but he was responsible for the success of the Wesleyan hockey program and championship/undefeated Choate-Rosemary Hall boy's ice hockey Team. If someone was having a problem in school, whether from the ice or outside of school, Jim was always available to listen to the players issues and then to provide counsel on how to resolve the problem. While he was unfortunately a "Larry"(meaning SLU player), I had the good fortune of asking him for advice when needed. Two of my sons went to Salisbury School and knew Bart Langlois where we again had common ground.
The last time that I saw Jim was unexpectedly, of course, at Exeter Academy's hockey rink where Wesleyan was playing a "make up game" due to a major storm. We laughed and told stories that we remembered from our days at Choate. On behalf of the '78 CRH Team and the Lufkin family God bless you Jim Langlois. CRH will always be appreciative of your service and friendship. Semper Fi........Paul

Dianne & Bart, Words can't express the sadness I feel for your loss. I worked with Jim at Lehigh and I found him to be one of the nicest people I had ever met. He was always ready to help. I'm sure he will be truly missed.

With Deepest Sympathy.
