James Nightingale Obituary

James Hazen Nightingale passed away August 5th, 2022 in Fort Myers, Florida. Jimmy was born on November 8, 1955 in Manchester, CT to Dorothy and Ronald Nightingale. He grew up in Coventry and graduated from Cheney Tech High School, after which he worked for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft as a manufacturer alongside his brother Ron. He loved working with his hands and this included creating beautiful stained glass art, in addition to other artistic expressions. Jimmy relocated to Fort Myers, Florida, where he graduated with a certificate in Marine Services Technology. He enjoyed all Florida had to offer, spending his time boating, fishing, riding motorcycles, and having adventures beachside. Jimmy's favorite song was "Born to Be Wild," and this reflected in the way he enjoyed life without taking it too seriously. He told great stories, had a big heart, and was known as the keeper of the family history, recounting his grandparents' lives in Ireland, Canada, and Maine before his immediate family settled in Manchester. He was blessed with a son, James "JJ" Hazen Nightingale, Jr., later in life and enjoyed sharing his adventures with him. A favorite annual event for the father and son was hunting in Kentucky with childhood friend, Billy White. Jimmy was known for his skills in the kitchen and his son's favorite dish was his venison spaghetti sauce. They took pride in building a go-kart for JJ to race in competitions and Jimmy loved cheering him on as well as watching him play soccer. He is predeceased by his father, Ronald Nightingale, Sr., long-time partner Patricia Bostick, and beloved sister Annette Nightingale DaSilva. His mother followed him shortly after his passing, never wanting to be far from his side, even in death. Jimmy is survived by his son James, brother Ronald Nightingale, Jr. and his wife Elaine, nieces Kristine DiMaggio, Valerie Jenkelunas, Colleen Nightingale and Lisa DiBenedetto, as well as great nephew Noah, and great nieces Abigail and Summer. A memorial for Jimmy and his mother Dorothy is planned for Saturday, October 22nd at 11 a.m. at the Salvation Army Church in Manchester. Memorial donations can be made to the Salvation Army in Manchester.

I knew Jimmy and his mom Dottie when I moved to the Red Coconut with my mom . Jimmy was so good to my mom and his mom later became friends. I was so excited when he had JJ. I was at JJs year old birthday. Jimmy and JJ always were close to me and I cut JJs hair no charge since the day he was born and Dottie and Jimmys also. I really miss him but glad he is at peace and I know I will see him again. I will keep my promise to always take care of JJ and be in his life no mater what. Dusty.
