Jane Hazen Obituary

Jane Wadhams Hazen, 93, of West Hartford passed away on September 8, 2023, at Hartford Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Charles (Chuck) S. Hazen in 2010. Jane was born in Hartford, to the late Conn. State Representative, Everett Calhoun Wadhams and Edith Dellert Wadhams of Bloomfield. Jane graduated from Bloomfield High School and Lasell College, in Medical Secretarial Sciences. She worked for Conn. General Life Insurance Co. - Medical and later for the Chief of Medicine at Hartford Hospital. Jane and Chuck raised their daughters in West Hartford, residing there for 56 years. After Chuck's passing, Jane moved to Farmington where she enjoyed several years, retaining former West Hartford friends and connections, along with the pleasure of making new ones. Jane never met a stranger! Jane was a long time (Jubilee) member of First Church of Christ Congregational West Hartford over 50 years, where she and Chuck were married in 1951. Jane served Meals on Wheels and was a Red Cross Nursing instructor, as well as being a deacon and on many other ministries at the church. Additionally she was a member of the White Chapel Handbell Choir, a member of the Descendants of the Mayflower, and served on the Board of Overseers and the Heritage Society at Lasell College. Jane leaves three daughters, Elizabeth Jane Hazen of Newburyport, MA; Linda Hazen Lewin of Falls Church, VA; Pamela Jean Hazen of Arlington, VA. Four cherished grandchildren, Keith Charles Gordon (Jen), Lydia Claire Peabody (Charlie), Andrew William Maddox, and John Hazen Maddox. A brother John Dellert Wadhams (Lynn) additionally survives her. She was predeceased by a brother, William Allyn Wadhams II. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on September 30, 2023, at the Meeting House at First Church of Christ Congregational, 12 S. Main St. West Hartford, CT 06107 with reception to follow. Memorial donations may be made to First Church of Christ Congregational West Hartford, music and fine arts; or to mercyships.org. The burial will be private in Mt. View Cemetery, Bloomfield.
