Janet Bloom Grevstad

Janet Bloom Grevstad, 92, of Sunapee, New Hampshire, died January 4, 2023 at New London (N.H.) Hospital.

She was born September 27, 1930 in Rochester, N.Y. to Frank and Mary (Beeman) Bloom. In 1951, she married Paul Grevstad.

They and their children, Lisa and Eric, moved to West Hartford, Conn. in 1964. Janet rose from a school secretary and paraprofessional to the senior administrator at Conard High School, responsible for everything from the school's master schedule to supervising the custodians and advising the yearbook staff.

The Grevstads kept their home on Ridgewood Road full of friends and neighbors, and hosted students through AFS and Project Concern.

Janet and Paul retired to Sunapee, N.H. in 1986, where they became extensively involved in environmental preservation and community vitality. Janet lived in Simsbury, Conn. from 2002 until 2018 before returning to New Hampshire for her final years at the Sunapee Cove assisted living community.

Janet was deeply committed to volunteer service, including recent work with First Church of Christ Simsbury, Simsbury Public Library, the Second Chance Shop, and Simsbury High School's ESL tutoring program.

Janet was predeceased by husband Paul, daughter Lisa, and son-in-law Mark Gerchman. She is survived by son Eric Grevstad (Patricia Reid Rup) of Bradenton, Fla.; granddaughters Liddy (Gregory) Barlow of Pittsburgh and Sarah-Mary Gerchman (Sharon Riley) of Cincinnati; two great-grandchildren; and brother Laurence Bloom of Peabody, Mass.

A memorial service will take place Saturday, June 3 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of New London, N.H., followed by burial at North Road Cemetery in Sunapee. All are welcome.

Although Janet loved flowers, she loved generosity even more, so the family requests that any gifts in her memory be made to the Lake Sunapee Protective Association (P.O. Box 683, Sunapee, NH 03782).
