Jeannine Cyr Obituary

Jeannine Gloria Theriault Cyr, 94, entered eternal rest Saturday, September 30, 2023, at the Residence at Ferry Park in Rocky Hill, CT after a courageous battle with Dementia.

She formerly resided in Middletown, Madison, and South Windsor, CT.

Jeannine was born in Madawaska, ME on July 24, 1929, to the late Leon and Catherine (Cormier) Theriault of Van Buren, ME.

After an early life of helping raise her younger siblings, training as a hairdresser, and a pianist, Jeannine married the love of her life, Leonel (Herb) Cyr, on April 7, 1953, at St. Bruno's Church in Van Buren, ME. They then moved to CT to make their life together. The couple were faithful parishioners and benefactors of the St Margaret Mary Church in South Windsor, CT. As a homemaker, Jeannine used her skills of sewing, teaching piano, hosting family dinners and card parties, and canning Herb's garden produce. She also worked as the bookkeeper for Herb's Drywall business, as a Bank Teller in South Windsor, and in her home salon beautifying the hair of her family and friends.

Jeannine's hobbies included reading, piano playing, embroidery, applique', knitting, and quilting. Many of her nieces and nephews enjoyed receiving her hand quilted blankets as gifts! In her retirement years, she enjoyed participating in prayer groups and making Baptismal gowns for the church, as well as hats, mittens, and blankets for many charities. Jeannine also sponsored children in need every year through the Brazil Mission Education Program.

Jeannine was predeceased by her parents, her husband Leonel, and her siblings Roger, Rose, Reno, Theresa, Claude, Patricia, Gemma, and Rachel.

Jeannine is survived by her devoted children and son- and daughter-in-law, Catherine Cyr-Sinicrope and Paul Sinicrope, of Madison, CT, Donald and Delphine Cyr of South Glastonbury, CT, and Arlene J. Cyr of South Windsor, CT; her beloved grandchildren, Daniel Sinicrope and his wife, Carly, of Austin, TX, and Catherine Sinicrope and her husband, Michael VanValkenburgh, of Rehoboth Beach, DE; and her sweet great grandchildren, Madelyn VanValkenburgh, Michael VanValkenburgh II, and Delphine Morrill. Jeannine's surviving siblings are Pauline Theriault of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Lolita Plourde of Humble, TX, and Reynold Theriault of Van Buren, ME; and many nieces and nephews who were all very much loved by Jeannine.

She will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to have shared in her company and life.

Private Visitation hours for family and friends will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Tuesday, October 17, at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor.
