Jerome Wexler Obituary

WEXLER, Jerome L. Jerome L. Wexler, 85, of Langshire Dr., Madison, passed away Wednesday, (March 12, 2008) at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Born in New York on February 6, 1923; son of the late Louis and Rose Lieberman Wexler. Mr. Wexler had worked as a Master Mechanic/First Piece Inspector for Pratt & Whitney; he had served in the U.S. Army during World War II; had worked for the State Dept. in Germany after World War II; a Professional Photograph/Writer, he was the author of over 50 childrens science books, Nature and Agriculture photography books, many of which were translated into many different languages. Mr. Wexler was a member of the Madison Camera Club and a former member of the Wallingford Camera Club; he was also a member of the Unitarian Society of New Haven in Hamden and later the Shoreline Unitarian Society. Father of Herbert Wexler of Norwalk and Amy J. Wexler of North Haven. Grandfather of Richard M. McGaffrey of North Haven. Brother of William Walter (Beatrice) Wexler of Pompano Beach, FL. Also survived by his former wife, Gwen Wexler of Killingworth and his live in caregiver, Laura Colangelo of Madison. Predeceased by his 2nd wife, Vicky (Wiggins) Wexler. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, March 27, at 10 a.m. in the Unitarian Society of New Haven, 700 Hartford Tpke., Hamden. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Nature Conservancy, Attn: Treasury, 4245 N. Fairfax Dr., Suite 100, Arlington, VA 22203. Jerome and I were first cousins. Although I hadn't seen Jerome in many years, I realize that he was able to involve himself in work that he loved. My sympathy to his immediate family.
