John G. Cronin

1943 - 2023

John G. Cronin, 79, of Wethersfield, formerly of West Hartford, passed away peacefully in his home on April 9, 2023 (Easter Sunday) surrounded by all his family. Beloved husband of 56 years to Betty (Egan) Cronin, John and Betty's 65-year love story was an inspiration to all that knew them, and his face lit up when he shared their adventures. John was born in Hartford to the late George and Beatrice Cronin of West Hartford. He was one of 11 children (The Cronin Clan). He graduated from William H. Hall High School in 1961 and cherished his lifelong friendship with his classmates and was very proud of his undefeated football team! He continued his education at Boston University playing football and then onto St. Louis University. John was an Army Veteran and took pride in his time of service.

John was predeceased by his brothers Michael, Peter and Glenn and John Egan along with sisters Kathy, Sharon and Bea. He is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Cronin of Wethersfield; his daughters, Colleen and husband Sean Sullivan, Carrie and husband Dan Boucher, and Erin Cronin; his son, Shaun Cronin and his wife Julie; his grandchildren Emily, Finn, Clark and Chase and his siblings, Mary Schmid, Jeff and Randi, Jim (Cricket) and Pam, Tom and Aline Cronin and Midge McMahon, as well as a loving abundance of nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.

John loved his life and welcomed every acquaintance with his sparkly smile, sense of humor and warmth. We are so blessed to have been loved by him and will miss the hugs, laughs and spins across the dance floor!

Calling hours will be Friday, April 28 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford. A Memorial Service will be Saturday, April 29 at 11 a.m. at the Asylum Hill Congregational Church, 814 Asylum Avenue, Hartford. A Celebration of John's Life will follow the Service.
