John Haksteen Obituary



John Jacob Haksteen, MD, FAPA, age 85, of Windsor Locks, CT passed away peacefully on Friday, December 16, 2016 at Hartford Hospital with his loving wife Marina (Martino) Haksteen at his side. Born October 19, 1931 in Weehawken, NJ son of the late Lodewyk and Josephine (Degroot) Haksteen. Dr. Haksteen graduated from Georgetown University School of Medicine. Held residency at the D.C. General Hospital in Washington D.C. and the Institute of Living in Hartford, CT. Shared his knowledge through Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Medical College of Virginia and Assistant Professor at John Dempsey Hospital in CT. He then went into psychiatric private practice affiliated with Hartford Hospital. He was Chief of Psychiatry at Mount Sinai Hospital in CT. Toward the end of his career he was a Probate Court Examiner providing forensic psychiatry for the State of MA and CT. In his retirement he authored the book 'Searching for Power'. He was a member of the American Medical Association, and Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. He served his country as a Lieutenant Commander in the Medical Core of the United States Navy. He is survived by his loving wife Marina Haksteen, three loving step-children Robert O'Neil and his wife Patricia, Theresa O'Neil and her husband David, and Kari Comfry and her husband Craig. Five beautiful step-grandchildren Kesley, Brianna, and Patrick O'Neil and Jeremy and Amber Comfry. We want to thank the staff at Hartford Hospital Bliss ICU, Bliss 10 Stepdown, Bliss 10E and Hospice for their loving care to my husband during his three weeks in the hospital. Everyone regardless of their position was very caring, attentive and compassionate towards my husband and me. They provided the highest level of professional care and treatment. My husband could not have been in a better environment during the last days of his life. We are eternally grateful to all the staff who attended him. His family will receive friends Tuesday, December 20, 2016 from 4:00-6:30 PM at Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Avenue, Windsor followed by a memorial service at 6:30 PM and concluding with military honors. The family will be having a private burial service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Windsor Locks Lions Ambulance, P.O. Box 105, Windsor Locks, CT 06096, or Windsor Locks Police Department, 4 Volunteer Dr., Windsor Locks, CT 06096 or Saint Mary's Church, 42 Spring St., Windsor Locks, CT 06096.
