John McKelvey Obituary

MCKELVEY, John R. John R. McKelvey, 68, of Lebanon, beloved husband of Patricia (O'Connell) McKelvey, passed away Friday (January 9, 2009) at home. Born November 3, 1940 in Utica, NY, he was the son of the late John James and Rose (Sczcerba) McKelvey. He was a 1962 graduate of Villanova University, were he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business and Marketing. In December of 1963, he enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserves and was immediately activated during the Vietnam War. On October 31, 1964, he and Pat were married in Providence and settled in Lebanon. Following their move, he transferred into the Army Reserves and served until October of 1969. Mr. McKelvey was a Chief Buyer for Pratt & Whitney for 21 years and went on to work as Eastern Sales Rep. for the former Reider & Klein Co. before his retirement. He was a longtime member and Past Commander of the American Legion Post No. 180 in Lebanon. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, golf, driving his truck and ATV and spending time with his dog. His greatest joy, however, was found in his family. In addition to his loving wife of 44 years, he is survived by two children, Marana McGinnis of West Rutland, VT and John Brendan McKelvey of Nashua, NH; three grandchildren, Kelvey McGinnis and Bailey and Charles McKelvey; his sister, Ann Martin of Sacramento, CA and numerous extended family members and friends. Friends may call Wednesday, 5-7 p.m. at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Road, Colchester. An American Legion Memorial Service with Military Honors will be observed at 7 PM. Burial will be private. The family expressly requests no flowers, but rather that donations be made to the Lebanon Vol. Fire Dept., P.O. Box 51, Lebanon 06249. To the family of John McKelvey,

I am so sorry for your loss. I was a high school classmate of Johns and was fortunate enough to see and visit with him last summer at the 50th Reunion. He was a special person with a big smile and an even bigger heart. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
My thoughts and prayers are with you during this most difficult time.

Sincerely, Phyllis Ondek
