John Barret Shepardson

1926 - 2018

John Barret Shepardson, 91, of Niantic, passed away on June 29, 2018 after a brief illness. He was born October 28, 1926, in Wallingford, the son of the late Douglas Auld and Blanche Barret Shepardson. His beloved wife, Beverly (Bristol) Shepardson, died in February of 2016. The couple had been married for 56 years. John was a Navy veteran of World War II, where he was stationed on the USS Alabama. He was a graduate of Choate Rosemary Hall, Wallingford, CT, Williams College class of 1952, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1964. His career at Pratt and Whitney spanned 35 years. After retirement, John continued to work for the Naval Underwater Warfare Center until 2000. A faithful member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Niantic, John was a Lay Minister of Communion, a Lector, served on the vestry, and was a long-time member of the church choir. John is survived by two children and their spouses, Gordon and Jennifer Shepardson of Manchester, Barbara and Michael Burruano of Amston, five grandchildren, Matthew Burruano and wife, Chelsea of Tolland, Abigail Burruano of Riverview, FL, Allessandra, Timothy, and Douglas Burruano of Amston, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Chelsea Hobbs. John's life will be celebrated during a memorial service to be held July, 31, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church, 400 Main Street, Niantic. Internment will be held privately at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. John's Episcopal Church's Mission and Outreach program, 400 Main St., Niantic, CT 06357-3126.
