John Thompson Obituary

John B. Thompson, Sr. "June" husband of Ruthie (Shorter) Thompson of Hartford departed this life Wednesday (June 6, 2001) at Saint Francis Hospital. He was born July 6,1928 in Statesville, North Carolina to the late John Everette and Winona H. Thompson. Mr. Thompson was educated in the North Carolina school system, a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a brick mason for over fifty years. He retired from the B & T Construction Company. Mr. Thompson was a faithful member of Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church of Hartford. Besides his wife at home, he leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Valerie Stockstell of Iowa; two sons John B. Thompson, Jr. and his wife Dawn of Windsor and Darryl Thompson, Sr. of Hartford; two brothers Richard Thompson and his wife Bette of Middletown and Blair Thompson of Statesville, North Carolina; a sister Gloria Lawson and her husband Dan of Goldsboro, North Carolina; five grandchildren Tashonda, John, Danielle, Laura Ashley and Darryl Jr.; two great-grandchildren Benny and Mekyiah; three godchildren Oswald Knight, Rollo Jones, Jr. and Rolanda Jones-Crump; extended family Lisa Thompson, Rollo Jones, Jr. and Yvonne (Shorter) Abrams, Jesse and Timmie Shorter. Special friends Wilbur "T-Bone" Williams, Mel Bryant, Tyrone McCray, Robb Smith, Bob Bolden, Roosevelt Terry and John Calloway, Sr.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother David Thompson. Funeral Service is Monday, June 11, 12 noon at Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church, 2051 Main Street, Hartford with calling hour 11 a.m. at the church. Burial Northwood Cemetery Wilson with full military honors. Clark, Bell & Bell Funeral Home, 319 Barbour Street, Hartford in care of arrangements.
