Joseph F. Murphy

Joseph F Murphy, 95, of Rocky Hill died peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, June 15, 2023. Joseph was born in New London, Connecticut on March 5th, 1928, son of late Joseph and Lillian (Barber) Murphy. He served as a Staff Sargent in the Army during WWII. Joseph graduated from Temple University with a Mortuary Science Degree. He was an avid golfer earning 2 Club championships at Black Ledge Country Club as well as 2-time GHO pro-am champion. His passion was umpiring fast and slow pitch softball for which he was inducted into the ASA Hall of fame in 2008. He was also passionate about his lawn, garden, and fishing. He will be missed by all that knew him. Joseph had a few occupations during his lifetime. He was a funeral director for Rose Hill Funeral Home in which later he opened his own funeral home in Danbury Connecticut. Later, Joe left the funeral business and went in to working for himself buying a franchise in the Pepperidge Farm Industry.

He leaves his sister Elizabeth Patterson and husband Robert of New Mexico; daughter Alice Sauger and her husband John T Sauger of Loudon, TN; his son Daniel J Murphy and wife Irene Murphy of Rocky Hill, CT; his grandchildren Amy M Sauger of Malden MA, Eric J Sauger of Revere, MA, Kaitlyn M Murphy, Samantha M Murphy and Megan H Murphy of Rocky Hill, CT. He was predeceased by his first wife Mary Janet (Feeley) Murphy and his second wife Rita L. (Washburn) Murphy.

Calling hours will be from 9:30 to 10:30 AM on Thursday June 22, 2023, at Rose Hill Funeral Home 580 Elm St. Rocky Hill CT. Funeral Mass to follow at 11 AM at St. Josephine Bakhita Parish (St. James Church) Rocky Hill, CT. Burial will take place in Rose Hill Memorial Park immediately following the Mass with Military Honors.
