Joseph Savino Obituary

Joseph "Pop," "Joe" Savino, 75, of South Windsor, formerly of Manchester beloved husband of Joan "Pumpkin" Savino died peacefully at Jefferson House on June 1st, 2023, after a long and brave battle with CIDP. Though his outcome was never entirely positive, he never gave up hope and never stopped fighting even until the very end. His family is eternally grateful for how long he was able to hold on, and the memories they were able to share because of his courage and strength.

Joe married his high school sweetheart and was a devoted husband and they went on to raising their family filled with love. Joe was son to the late Frank and Olga Savino. He was born and raised in Manchester and graduated from Manchester High School in 1965. He was an athlete growing up, playing baseball in both high school and with the American Legion. During his adult years he played softball and was active as a coach in Manchester Little League for many years. Joe retired in 2006 after 40 years with Pratt & Whitney.

Joe was a very private man who adored his family. One of his biggest accomplishments was being a father. He was always there for his children through their ups and downs, was their biggest "cheerleader" and taught them to enjoy every moment life has to offer.

Joe held many titles in life, but his favorite role was being "Pop" and he loved nothing more than spending time with his grandsons. Weekly grocery shopping trips ending at Augie & Rays for hot dogs (Ben). Daily emails bantering back and forth about the Red Sox and "life" (Josh). His weekly love for mustard/pretzels (Trent) and his famous cinnamon toast before school (Coleman & Brycie). It brought him pure joy to spoil them all and he exemplified what a grandparents love truly means.

Joe was a dedicated sports fan-he cheered on countless games featuring his children and grandchildren, as well as UConn Women's basketball and the Red Sox. He thought he was the best "couch coach" the Sox ever had. He also enjoyed endless Hallmark movies with his wife and listening to his Sunday morning Jazz.

In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his daughter Karen Klock (Jason), son Frank Savino, five grandchildren Benjamin, Joshua, Trent, Coleman, Brycie and his great-grandson Julien.

Joe is also survived by his brother-in-law Bill MacDonald (Teri) – who would bring him his favorite Italian grinder and long hots and two sisters-in-law that he considered to be his sisters – Betty Dodge and Peg MacDonald. He was predeceased by his brother John Savino and leaves 3 siblings behind.

A special thank you is gratefully extended to the many health care professionals at Jefferson House for their compassionate care and special thanks to his Physical Therapist Shannon. Also, a special thank you to Dr. Annie S. Daniel MD and her team at Ayer Neuroscience Institute for their exemplary care and support of both Joe and his wife.

A Celebration of Life will be private and at the family's convenience. The family welcome donations to GBS/CIDP Foundation International in Joe's honor. Donations can be sent to GBS/CIDP Foundation International, 375 East Elm St., Suite 101, Conshohocken, PA 19428.
