Joseph Sottile Obituary

Joseph Anthony Sottile, 87 years, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend passed away in the early hours of December 18, 2019 at home with his loving family by his side after a 12 month battle with lung cancer. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather and uncle, and touched many lives with his wisdom, generosity, and kindness. He taught his children honesty and integrity in both word and deed. He will be missed as he was a strong presence in all our lives. To know him was to like him and love him. He was born in Hartford, Connecticut to Anthony Sottile and Sandina (Sally) Cascio on May 4, 1932. He lost his beloved father Anthony in a tragic accident at the tender age of 5 years old. He carried that loss with him his entire life. We celebrate their joyous reunion at this time. Joe was an only child. He graduated from Weaver High School, Hartford, Connecticut, class of 1950. He maintained close relationships with many of his classmates throughout his life. He proudly served his country during the Korean war in the USS Navy as a Third class Chief Petty Officer and was a member of the Underwater Demolition Team which was the precursor to the current Navy Seals, for 2 years on the USS Damato, a Navy Destroyer. He married his High School sweetheart, and love of his life, Lucille Rita Zampaglione on June 13, 1953. He was a skilled carpenter and craftsman, building custom homes with his father-in-law and brother-in law: William Zampaglione and Sons Custom Builders. They built many beautiful homes in the greater Hartford area. When there was something to be repaired or built, we called on Dad and he would take care of it. Many people both family and acquaintances did the same. He will be dearly missed. The family wishes to express our sincere gratitude to the VNA Hospice team for their kind and competent care for our Husband and Father. They were a tremendous support and help to the family during this difficult time. He is survived by his dear wife Lucille, daughters Terrie (Corbin) Bennion of Sandy, Utah, Debra Foxall of Canton, son Bill Sottile (Chris) of Simsbury, 8 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, with another expected in March 2020. What a legacy from an only child, and all felt his love and tender care. He was our Pop & Papa. He was preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law Edmond Foxall. Calling hours will be Thursday, January 2, 2020, 4-7 PM at Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center, 301 Country Club Rd. Avon, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, January 3, at 10 AM at the Church of Saint Ann, 289 Arch Rd., Avon. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Mount Saint Benedict Cemetery next to his beloved father. To leave an online condolence, please visit carmonfuneralhome.com

Bill,
I have many fond memories of your dad. When I would spend the weekend at your house we often went to the dump with him in his truck on Saturday mornings, that was fun for 12 year old boys! He would watch over us as we rode your mini bike, played pool and fished in the river. He and your mom were always welcoming and kind.
I will never forget the good times with him when we were young.
Take comfort in knowing that he is now in a better place.
May God Bless you and your family as you go through these tough times.
Your old friend,
Glenn
