Joseph Zalman Obituary
Joseph Zalman of Supply, North Carolina, passed away on Monday, January 9, 2017. He was 66. He is survived by his beloved and devoted wife Valerie Zalman; his son, Ben Zalman and his fiancée Cassandra; his daughters, Melanie McDonald and her husband Chris, Molly Zalman, Kyle Bovi and her husband Max, Ravyn Candia and Karen Anderson and her husband, Kevin; and three grandchildren, Bailey Candia, Henry McDonald, and Ada Mae Bovi. He is also survived by his brothers, Richard and Andrew Zalman, many wonderful nieces and nephews, and countless family and friends. Born to Freda and Alex Zalman in Queens, NY, on February 11, 1950, Joe attended Hunter College where he received a master's degree in Education. Like his father, Joe was skilled entrepreneur and founded UltraOptix, a Connecticut-based manufacturer of high quality vision aid products for which he served as president for over 40 years. Joe was a kind, generous, and caring man who found joy in life's simple pleasures-among them pistachio ice cream, watching Saturday Night Live, spending time with his grandchildren, sneaking candy into the movie theatre, food that was temperature HOT (not spicy hot), playing golf with family, tackling a challenging crossword puzzle, and watching boats peacefully glide by from the porch while enjoying a cup of coffee and the newspaper. He will be missed deeply by those who had the good fortune of knowing him. A Memorial Service will take place at a later date.
