Joshua Van Obituary

Joshua Van passed away on June 17, 2021 at Advent Health Hospital in Ocala Florida surrounded by family. He was just 41. Born in Simsbury, CT to Richard Van and Kathleen Garrity Van. Josh attended Simsbury High School where he played varsity soccer for four years, his last as captain, and was All State and All New England. He accepted a scholarship to Marist College, where he co-captained the soccer team for three years and graduated with a business degree. Josh worked in the construction business for several years until he relocated and became a well-respected construction supervisor in the Dallas metro area. Josh's greatest joy and biggest loves were his two children. He cherished all of the friendships and the memories he made throughout his life. Along with his children, Josh's passions were soccer, the Philadelphia Eagles, the Dallas Stars, country music and his many friends. He loved golf, dogs, barbeque sauce, sharing stories, and laughing. Josh leaves behind his beloved children, Elle and Decker Van, his mother, Kathleen Van, his father and stepmother, Richard and Pamela Van, his sister, Heather Dayner, his stepsisters, Cristina and Stefanie Swift, his niece Schuyler Dayner and many loving uncles and aunts and cousins. No parents could have asked for a better son. Josh will be missed by many, will always be loved, and never forgotten. There will be a celebration of life at a later date.

I was so sorry to hear that Josh passed. It is a big loss. He was our neighbor in Texas for just a short time. He was so kind..he would do anything in the world for us. We are an older couple. He helped us at our home out of the goodness of his heart. My condolences to the family. He will be missed.

I played soccer with Josh for many years growing up in CT. As the team goalkeeper, I counted on Josh more than anyone else because he was the last defender...the sweeper. We always had each others back and I’ve never had a longer and closer relationship with any other athlete. Josh was the heart of the team and a natural leader. I have many fond memories of our time together.

Thank you, Josh. RIP.

I had the honor of playing soccer with Josh which began at Oakwood and continued through college. He was a true leader on and off the field. He cared for his teammates as if they were family. My condolences to his family. RIP my friend.

Josh was a wonderful friend and teammate. He was a warrior on the field and kind and caring off it. Growing up there was no one I spent more time with than Josh. I am forever grateful for that and will cherish the memories of our time together. My deepest condolences to his young children and his entire family. Josh, may you rest in peace my friend.

I will never forget the day he took me into the backyard at our house and laid out all the huge plans he had for it, and everything he would do to make my mom and I happy. That man saw no obstacle in life, and he would do anything to make others happy, he will truly be missed
