JACKSON, Kenneth L.
Kenneth L. Jackson, 84, of South Windsor passed away unexpectedly at home June 21, 2013. Ken was born August 4, 1928 in Manchester to Fred and Elsie Jackson. He leaves his best friend and wife of 60 years, Barbaral and his two daughters Paula Hurley of Manchester and Lisa Pagnani of West Barnstable, MA as well as their husbands Patrick Hurley and John Pagnani; and his grandsons Brenden and Myles Hurley. He also leaves behind his sister Barbara Deganne of Manchester and was brother of the late Donald Jackson of Manchester. Ken graduated from Manchester High School and Hillyer College, now the University of Hartford, and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He and his family moved to South Windsor in 1960 and was the owner of Jackson's Wayside Market and the Buckboard Spirit Shop and was currently employed by Franklin-Hartford Distributors. Ken belonged to numerous civic and community organizations. He was a founder and charter member of the South Windsor Rotary Club, and the 3rd president and a two time recipient of the Paul Harris Award. He was a charter member and 3rd president of the South Windsor Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Republican Party and served as South Windsor Town Treasurer. He was a member of the Order of the Free Masons and the Tall Cedars of Lebanon. Ken was one of the first organizers of the Thanksgiving Day Road Race. He was a member of the South United Methodist Church in Manchester. Ken enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved to attend his grandson's soccer games, and he and Barbara enjoyed many cruises with his daughter Lisa and her husband John. For his and Barbara's 50th wedding anniversary the family took a celebratory excursion to Atlantis, Paradise Island. He was recently honored to join the American Warrior trip to Washington D.C. to see the veteran monuments.
Family and friends may gather at Holmes Funeral Home, Manchester on Thursday June 27, 2013 for calling hours beginning at 9:30 a.m. with a service to follow at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at East Cemetery, Manchester. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the South Windsor Ambulance Corp at 1175 Ellington Road, South Windsor, CT 06074, or the American Warrior Veteran Fund Drive at http://www.americanwarrior.us.
