Kenneth Shepard Obituary

Kenneth John Shepard, Sr. of Guilford, died peacefully at home Tuesday (August 7, 2001). He leaves his beloved wife of almost 60 years, Marguerite Bergen; two sons, Kenneth J. Shepard, Jr. and wife, Mary Ann of Guilford and the Rev. Thomas B. Shepard of Rocky Hill. Mr. Shepard, born 1910 in Guilford, never lived more than a couple of miles from his birthplace. After graduating from New Haven College with a Degree in Business, he joined his brother William as a manger of Griswold's Dept. Store, where be retired after nearly 50 years. He was active in town civic affairs being Captain of F.C. Spencer Hook and Ladder Fire Company and treasurer of the town fire department. Mr. Shepard was also a charter member of the honor guard of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Guilford Yacht Club and different town committees. In addition to his wife and sons, he leaves his grandchildren, Debra and her husband, David Nelson and Kenneth J. Shepard, III; two sisters, Isabella M. Shepard of Guilford and Marjorie S. D'Angelo of Southington; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Shepard will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father and friend by many. All are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial Friday, August 10, 10 a.m. at Saint George Church, Guilford. Memorial donations may be made to Saint George Church, 33 Whitfield St., Guilford, CT 06437 and the Visiting Nurses Association of Guilford, 669 Boston Post Rd., Guilford, CT 06437. Arrangements in care of the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St., Guilford.
