Linwood Mitchell Obituary

Linwood Paul "Mitch" Mitchell, 93, of Storrs, CT, entered eternal peace on May 21, 2023, in Rockville, CT. Paul was born October 9, 1929, in Patten, ME, the son of Eddie and Eltha Campbell Mitchell.

After receiving training in Kentucky and Ft. Dix, NJ during the Korean War, Paul was stationed in several locations for the U.S. Army across Germany in the heavy weapons infantry.

In 1953 after being discharged following two tours of duty, he married Helena Lillian Main of Crystal, ME. They were married for 67 years and lived in Storrs for 46 years.

Following the war, he secured numerous jobs as a skilled mechanic working on trucks and for many years with Mashkin Freight Lines in East Hartford.

Having been born and raised in the far reaches of northern Maine, Paul was an avid deer hunter, fisherman, ice fisherman, and expansive and proud vegetable gardener.

Paul was predeceased by his wife of 69 years, Helena Lillian Mitchell; his daughter, Alice Lynne Mitchell-King; his youngest son, Stephen Linwood Mitchell, and adopted son Joey Gaudreau-Mitchell; granddaughter Tabitha Jean Gaudreau; nephew, Kirby Humphrey; older brother, Raymond, sisters, twins Jennette and Joann, Betty, Elizabeth, and Mary Jane; brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Nancy Main.

Left to cherish his memory are his son, Keith Arland Mitchell, and his wife, Barbara; adopted son, Carlos Gaudreau-Mitchell; son-in-law, Ronald King; grandsons Jason and Paul King, and Joseph Mitchell; Ian Mitchell, Keith Arland Mitchell, Jr. and his wife, Nicole; nephews Gary and Terence Humphrey, Chester Cole, Michael, and Leroy Main; brothers and sisters in law Rev. Stephen and Gwen Main, Rev. Peter, and Joan Main; sister-in-law Joyce Chambers, nieces Robin, and Cindy Chambers; and numerous nephews and nieces nationwide.

Paul delighted in his close relationships as great-grandfather to Matthew Linwood King; Jamie Lynn-Ann King; Savannah Jade Mitchell; and Kaden Russi.

Throughout his well-lived life, Paul had very fulfilling and joyful relationships with many relatives from his and his wife's families across the United States.

Paul's family wishes to extend heartfelt deep gratitude to devoted friend and neighbor, Dawn Marquis of Storrs, and the staff of Fox Hill Center in Rockville.

On Saturday, June 10, Paul's remains will be buried with his wife and family at the 'new' Abington Cemetery at 592 Mashamoquet Road, off Route 44 in Pomfret Center, CT. A graveside memorial service with military honors will begin promptly at 10:30 a.m.
