Lois Williams Obituary

Lois L. Williams, 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 8, 2018 after a brief illness. Born on July 30, 1929 to Gordon Lyons and Doris Lyons Carty in New Haven, CT, Lois graduated from Hillhouse High School and went on to work as an elevator operator at S.N.E.T. This job soon blossomed into a variety of occupations there with a career that spanned over 25 years. In 1953, Lois married the love of her life, Harold E. Williams, and together they raised three children in their Hamden home filled with love and wonderful family traditions. When she lost her husband unexpectedly in 1991, Lois soldiered on with remarkable resilience and courage, surrounded by her family and friends. The consummate athlete, Lois was a stellar pitcher and basketball player for the New Haven Telle-Belles in the 1950s (Pee Wee Lyons), winning tournaments up and down the East Coast. Over the years Lois also became a skilled tennis and ping pong player and an avid golfer, playing regularly with friends well into her eighties. In addition to her enthusiasm for sports, Lois loved to take walks with her Weimaraner, Heidi, making friends throughout the neighborhood in the process. Lois was a gifted artist and a voracious reader who also loved to shop, garden, decorate her home, and bake desserts that she generously shared with others. After Hamden, Lois's favorite place in the world was Goose Rocks Beach in Maine, where she spent every summer with her daughter's family, soaking up the rays, excelling at cornhole and paddle ball, and savoring friend clams, lobster rolls, and hot fudge nut sundaes. Although her departure has left a huge hole in our lives, we know that her journey continues, and she will continue to watch over her family lovingly, as always. Lois is survived by her daughter, Nancy Williams Horowitz, and her husband, Paul, of Simsbury; her son Gordon Williams and his wife, Patricia (Fattore), of Hamden; her son Harold Williams Jr. and his wife, Lois (Wrzosek), of Westerly, RI; her five grandchildren, Jonathan Horowitz and his wife, Katie McDonough, Sarah Horowitz, Caitlin Williams Trinh and her husband, Dan, Maddie Williams Colonnese and her husband, Brian, and Carolyn Williams; and her two great-grandchildren, Emmeline Trinh and Elliot Horowitz. Lois and her family are most grateful for the extraordinary kind and loving care she received from everyone at the Seabury Meadows Memory Care facility in Bloomfield, CT, Heidi from Masonicare Home Health and Hospice, and her three CNA "angels," Nicole, Phiona, and Muriel. Calling hours will be from 9:30–11 a.m. at the Sisk Brothers Funeral Home at 3105 Whitney Ave. in Hamden, CT on Wednesday, April 11, followed by an 11:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Joan of Arc Church. Burial will follow in Beaverdale Memorial Cemetery. Everyone is invited to a gathering at Eli's on Whitney following the burial.
