Lorenzo Aresti

1918 - 2018

Lorenzo Aresti, age 99, of Middletown, CT passed away peacefully with his two sons by his side on January 5th, 2018. Lorenzo was born on August 10th, 1918, and was predeceased by the love of his life, Helen, to whom he was married for 58 years, and he missed her every day. He was a loving, strong compassionate family man of faith who worked hard to provide for his family, and was always helping others. Lorenzo worked as a machinist for many years at Standard Knapp - later Emhart - in Portland, first as a lathe operator then in prototype development and testing of new machinery. He was an extremely proud Army Veteran of World War II, serving as Staff Sergeant for Company C, 169th Infantry Regiment, 43rd Division - " Winged Victory". He was highly decorated during his 3 years in the Asiatic Pacific Theater, including 2 Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star, the Asiatic Campaign Medal and many others. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and lifetime member of the American Legion and Disabled Veterans. Everyone who ever met Lorenzo instantly sensed his kindness, gentleness and welcoming spirit. His greatest joy in life was his family, who loved listening to his stories and wisdom about life in general. He will always be lovingly remembered by his son Ralph and wife Susan, son Robert and wife Liz, grandchildren Crista, Maryann, Sarah, Elizabeth and Robert, great-grandchildren Ariella and Joseph, brother Salvatore and his wife Barbara, sister Bibbiana, a special niece Ann Marie Heller and her husband Ted, and many nieces and nephews in the United States and ltaly. Lorenzo was the son of the late Raffaele and Carmela Aresti, and was predeceased by his sisters Eulalia, Rose and Berta, and his brother Ralph. His sons would like to thank Dr. Siegel and also the staff at the Village at South Farms for their wonderful care of our dad. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January l2 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Church in Cromwell, with interment at St. Sebastian Cemetery to follow. There will be no calling hours. D'Angelo Funeral Home in Middletown, CT is in charge of the arrangements and condolences for the family may be left on their website. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Lorenzo's honor to your local chapter of the Disabled Veterans.
