Lucia Elena (Falbo) Fulin died peacefully on Thursday (February 21, 2013), surrounded by members of her family. She was born in Middletown, CT on Apr. 23, 1909; she was the daughter of Lucia Gervasi and Sebastiano Falbo. Her step-father was Dr. Sebastiano Crescimanno of Melilli, Sicily. She was pre-deceased by a much-loved son, Alexander S. Fulin, her mother Lucia Pitruzzello, and her husband, Luigi S. Fulin. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth (Betty) Petruzelo and her husband, Joseph, of Meriden, CT, by her daughter, Laura Edelberg and her husband, Paul of Stamford, CT, by her grandchildren Paula (and Keith) Backman of Old Saybrook, CT, Peter Petruzelo of Durham, CT, Alexander (and Susan) Fulin of New Windsor, NY, David (and Jacqueline) Fulin of Demarest, NJ, Jennifer Edelberg of Brooklyn, NY and Suzanne Edelberg of Stamford, CT, and by her great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. As a very young child, she and her parents emigrated to Sicily where she attended local schools and an artisanal sewing school in Catania where she received her training in women's clothing design and tailoring and perfected her unusual talent with fabrics, sewing skills, impeccable tailoring and flair for style. Her creations whether formal or casual always reflected a sense of Italian/European style and couture. From her arrival in the US in 1932 until late into her 70's, she worked out of her home serving a varied clientele--whether Wesleyan university professors, local citizens, music performers who would be appearing on television, or young brides. They came to her for design consultations, or for one-of-a-kind creations using fabrics from around the world which became casual wear, dresses, suits, coats, wedding gowns, bridesmaids' dresses, Bat Mitzvah dresses or Indian saris. She loved music, art, literature and poetry. Even at the age of 103, she was a source of inspiration to all who came in contact with her. She was a devout Catholic and was a member of St. Sebastian Church.
There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Sebastian Church, 155 Washington St., Middletown, CT. on Monday, Feb. 25 at 12 Noon. Interment will follow at the family plot at St. Sebastian Cemetery, RTE.66.
