Margaret Ryan Obituary

Margaret Elizabeth Ryan (Doyle) 98, passed peacefully at her home in Cave Creek, AZ on February 25, 2021. "Peggy" was born in Old Saybrook, CT on May 17, 1922 and grew up in the historic sailing village of Essex, CT. She graduated from Pratt High School in 1940. Peggy married her high school sweetheart Royal Grant II after the end of World War II. She was widowed in 1948. Peggy remarried in 1952 to Donald W. Ryan of New Britain, CT. They settled in Wethersfield, CT and raised four children. She was an accomplished artist, exhibiting and selling her lovely landscape, seascape and floral watercolors from Maine to Florida. Peggy was known for her tremendous sense of style, her flair for decorating and entertaining. She was a wonderful cook with a specialty in baking - especially her blueberry pies and her legendary dinner rolls at holiday time. Family summers were spent yachting from Nantucket to Maine. Southern Vermont became home in 1972 where Peggy found endless material for her successful painting career. She was an accomplished classical pianist, an avid skier and golfer - with memberships at Wethersfield Country Club (CT) and Stratton Mountain Country Club in Vermont. Peggy was endlessly proud of her hole-in-one. She loved caring for her Morgan horses. In 1986, Peggy and Don moved to sunny South Florida and eventually settled at the Legacy Golf Club community in Port St. Lucie. They renewed their love of boating and made many trips to the Florida Keys & Bahamas on their yacht the Megalove, named after her beloved granddaughter Meg. Peggy was widowed again in 2000 and moved to Scottsdale, Arizona. She loved her years in Arizona, made many wonderful friends and continued to paint, play the piano, travel & play golf. Peggy lived a long, full, healthy and happy life for almost 99 years. Everybody who met her loved her sweet personality, genuine warmth and darling sense of humor. She was pre-deceased by her husband Donald and son Peter and leaves behind three children, Betsy Passov of Cave Creek, AZ, Donna Kuncio of Wyckoff, NJ and Royal Grant of Felton, DE, along with three grandchildren Meganne Outerbridge, David Kuncio, Patrick Kuncio and two great-grandchildren Brody and Paige Outerbridge. A Celebration of Life Ceremony is being planned for in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Mayo Clinic Hospital of Arizona.

Always a cherished place in our hearts for our dearest friend who came late into our lives with genuine joy, humor, and so many common interests. All the while, an abundance of quality.

It was our pleasure to have had the chance to meet and know Peggy. She was a very kind warm and wonderful lady. She showed such zest for life and her out going care spirit was the very first thing my family noticed and made us enjoy the time we spent with her an Betsy. From our family to yours our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Sorry for your loss. Peggy was charming and delightful, a great conversationalist, deeply interested in the people she met, even though her own life was more remarkable than theirs. Impressed by her prodigious talent as an artist. Can only imagine the depth of her other talents. Peggy will be missed dearly.
