Marguerite Glass Obituary

Marguerite "Mardy" Wallace Glass, 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on August 10, 2023. Mardy was born in Cleveland, OH to Caroline and Andrew Wallace and grew up in Longmeadow, MA. She lived throughout her life in Longmeadow, Suffield, CT, Florida, Windsor, CT and most recently at Stonebrook Village in Windsor Locks, CT.

Mardy was very proud of her family lineage as the daughter of Andrew B. Wallace III, the CEO of Forbes and Wallace department store in Springfield, MA and the granddaughter of a philanthropic businessman and owner of the Cleveland Indians, Alva Bradley, whom she adored. She graduated from MacDuffie School in Springfield, MA which in later years her grandfather Andrew B. Wallace Jr's estate became a focal point of the campus. While attending Connecticut College for Women she fell in love with the Air Force Pilot who grew up across the street in Longmeadow's Glen Arden, John Glass. She and John had many great adventures during their 53 years of marriage building his Ford Dealership, skiing in Vermont, playing golf all over the world, socializing with many great friends and being best friends. They were active members of the Longmeadow Country Club for many years. Mardy was an avid tennis player then took up golf at age 50 and became head of the Ladies 18 Holers and a Club Champion. By far, Mardy was most proud of her role as a mother and was very devoted to her three children: J.D., Wendy and Callie. Mardy was the proverbial life of the party with a great sense of humor and often entertained all by playing the piano and singing jazz standards.

Those here to miss her include her daughter Callie Glass of Windsor, CT, her son John D. Glass Jr., and his wife Lisa of Lafayette, LA, her grandchildren: Buddy Glass, his wife Lindsey and their children, her great grandchildren, Oliver, Andi and Elenor, David Woodall, Jillian Prescod, Mari Travis and her husband Keith and Elise D'Addio whom Mardy let everyone know is the Woobie. Mardy also leaves her beloved sister and brother-in-law Jean and Luis Weil. Her nieces and nephews: Scott (Suzanne) Weil, Jennifer (Marc) Aldinger, Jeffrey (Lisa) Weil, Betsy Palmer and Penny Gordon as well as many great nieces and nephews. Mardy loved keeping in touch with family and hearing about special events and seeing pictures of them all.

Mardy was predeceased by her husband John Glass, her parents Kay and Andy Wallace, her in laws Dot and Dave Glass, her beautiful daughter Wendy Woodall and her son in law Donald Woodall. She deeply believed she would be reunited with her loved ones in the Kingdom of God.

Her daughter Callie would like to thank her aides Monica Camby, Latoya Wilson and Esther Peterson for all they did for her mom the last months of her life. "Team Mardy" worked tirelessly with love to be sure mom was comfortable in the end.

There are no calling hours. A private burial will be scheduled at the Longmeadow Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hartford HealthCare at Home Hospice at 1290 Silas Deane Hwy Suite 4B, Wethersfield, CT 06109

So many great memories of Mardy Glass, the embodiment of our Camp Wohelo's founder:
"Full of the joy of being alive!"
She came from a wonderful family, Kay and Andy, and she and her beloved John created a wonderful family of their own.
Mardy will long be remembered. Who could possibly forget her! To this day, I can still hear her iconic laugh across the room....or by the pool at the Club....
Rest in Peace Mardy.
