Maria Cicchiello Obituary

Maria (Ferrera) Cicchiello, 86, of Wethersfield, beloved wife of the late Lorenzo Cicchiello for over 59 years, entered into eternal rest on Monday (January 20, 2014) with her family by her side. Born on August 5, 1927 in San Lorenzo Maggiore, province di Benevento, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Lorenzo and Luisa (Colangelo) Ferrara. Maria immigrated to America in 1961 and went to work at Colt Manufacturing Co., a position she held until her retirement. She enjoyed tending to her gardens, especially her flower gardens. Maria's joy was visiting her native Italy quite often with her husband, spending time in their hometown. They also enjoyed traveling to Florida, the Caribbean and Australia during the winter months. She was an exceptional cook, and more than anything, she loved cooking special dinners for her husband and family. She was extremely proud of her son, grandsons and great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by her son, Attorney Angelo Cicchiello and his wife Paula of Wethersfield; her two adored grandsons, Dr. Lawrence A. Cicchiello and his wife Jaclyn of Middletown, NY and Attorney Emanuele R. Cicchiello and his wife Sophia of Rocky Hill and her three cherished great-grandchildren, Adrianna C., Amelia P., and Jack A. Cicchiello. She is also survived by two sisters, Giuseppina DiDonato of Italy and Ida Iannotti of Australia, as well as several other relatives in Italy, Australia and Canada.

Funeral services will begin on Friday at 9:15 a.m. at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect St., Wethersfield. Entombment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Donations in Maria's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908. For online expressions of sympathy to the family, please visit www.desopo.com.

I visit the mausoleum where Maria and Lorenzo are entombed nearly every week, because my wife Ann, who also knew and admired them, rests nearby. Whenever I'm there I say my rosary for the eternal repose of all who rest there, especially for those whom I fondly remember.
